Introduction:

Diamond of The First Water shirt weight fabric was originally created for a top British designer renowned for his iconic men's and ladies' wear designs. Read on for more ideas, info and inspo on how to use this designer deadstock fabric to create your own bespoke makes.

Colour:

As its name suggests, this is the most heavenly purest freshwater pearl hue with a glowing lustre like the nacreous sheen of a pearl highlighting the complexities of the diamond jacquard weave like the facets of the finest diamonds.

Properties:

A seriously stylish jacquard woven light, shirt-weight fabric with the most beautiful silk-like sheen. Jacquard fabrics are cleverly woven using intricate weaving techniques to showcase complex designs which catch the light, picking up semi-matte and more lustrous areas to create the characteristic sumptuous allure -of a solid colour with hidden depths and boasts a geometric diamond design with mesmerising repetition.

This exquisite fabric is one of outstanding beauty, like the debutante of the season. Has the softest smooth, cool to the touch with a silken sheen and malleable hand. A soft and fluid drape quality, plus good stability length and widthwise (slight ease widthwise) make it perfect for a host of spectacularly stunning garments sure to be the 'Belle of the Ball'

Garment Suggestions:

Create the perfect version of the classic silk shirt from Diamond of The First Water. Emphasise the elegant drape quality by choosing sewing pattern styles with soft elegant details - simple drape details or flouncy details and fine gathers. Full-sleeved blouses with stylish classic tie-necks and softly gathered details will look impeccable, as will most classic shirt and blouse styles.

Extend the classic tie-neck blouse aesthetic into a super stylish dress- a simple shirt dress or add some gathered tiers. The Megan Nielsen Protea Capsule Wardrobe is a superb pattern, perfect for use with this fabric. For a simply elegant style where the fabric will be showcased, the Vogue 1902 '80 style semi-cowl neck blouse with Dolman sleeves is perfect! This is one of those fabrics that will do all the work.

Other accessible patterns perfect for cool drapey fabrics are the Pink City Collection from Sew Different: The Tuk Tuk Wrap Dress will look so chic when made in Diamond of The First Water is perfect even as an alternative wedding dress.

Other Uses:

Create classic pyjamas so cool, breathable and stylish. Imagine classic piped collar pyjamas like the Closet Core Carolyn Pyjamas piped with black and featuring a monogrammed pocket in matching black embroidery.
