All You Need To Sew...

Black Friday; or should we say Bright Friday?

Black Friday; or should we say Bright Friday?

It’s that time of year when people go crazy, almost desperate in their attempts to barge their way to the front of the queue in the hope of finding a bargain. Who can get something for nothing and tell everyone in the following days, weeks & months just how much of a bargain it was… At Fabworks, we’re not ones to jump on the bandwagon, if anything we want to be different...

Textiles Is In The Blood

I am Dawn, Fabworks Online product specialist & description writer. This is my own story & sentiment for the inspiration behind our recent Heart of Huddersfield project

People often ask where I get my inspiration from when writing Fabworks’ fabric descriptions. I always say that I am inspired by many things especially nature, particularly the landscape and flora and fauna within. I am a proud Yorkshire woman and I was blessed with parents and grandparents that were also born and bred Yorkshire, who instilled in me an appreciation for Yorkshire’s countryside as well as its people, plants and animals.

You Show Off You!

You Show Off You!

We’re absolutely loving seeing what people are creating with the gorgeous wools from our Heart of Huddersfield range of Yorkshire tweeds. In fact, we’ve even featured a couple already in our posts. Well we were raving about these and suddenly thought, wouldn’t it be lovely to make more of this! After all what greater pleasure is there when you’ve made something new and you’re bursting with excitement over it, than other people seeing it and hearing them cooing over your work?

Bag making with Yorkshire Tweed. As a maker of bags, my fabric radar is almost always set to ‘tweed’, its like I can smell it!

Bag Making With Yorkshire Tweed

Hi, I'm Emma & I make bags. Here's a short piece written by me for Fabworks about bag-making using the new Heart of Huddersfield range of wool tweeds.

As a maker of bags, my fabric radar is almost always set to ‘tweed’, its like I can smell it! I was once driving back from a sewing weekend in Malhamdale, stopped for coffee in the middle of nowhere and discovered a small quilting shop with a whole wall full of the stuff. Heaven! I love using wool, not only can I stitch it on my domestic sewing machine, but it is also hard-wearing and water resistant, which means that it is the perfect alternative to leather for the home sewist when bag making.

Creating the yarn combinations was probably the most difficult thing when it came to designing our own wool tweeds.

Heart of Huddersfield; Heritage, Tradition, Sustainability

Huddersfield is famous for its woollen manufacturing, being one of the most impressive and renowned producers of wool cloth across the world. Fabworks is fortunate enough to have access to its mills, experience its heritage first hand and support the local industry that is built on tradition and its surrounding landscape.

Creating the yarn combinations was probably the most difficult thing when it came to designing our own wool tweeds.

Dawn's Diary: Kaleidoscopic Galaxies Scuba

If like me you’re a colour junkie, you will surely be wowed by our amazing scuba: Kaleidoscopic Galaxies. This medium weight soft and squishy, buoyant and bouncy, super stretchy, finely knitted fabric has a plethora of plus points. Even though I’m not normally a scuba wearer this fabric, definitely gets my vote because of its unbelievably mesmerising and colourful design.
