Dark produce a classic winter palette and are artfully woven together in Winter Forest Plaid.

The fine wool and viscose yarns used to create this stunning plaid are lightly brushed and lightly crimped (like crepe yarns), boasting a true winter plaid combination of spruce green and midnight navy to form the main body of the medium plaid design.  Accentuated by fine overchecks of white (like frost tipped pine branches) and Yew berry red adding the final flourish.

Winter Forest Plaid fine wool and viscose fabric is lightweight but will keep you as cosy as flannel and has a fine texture akin to crepe, fine fabric that is lightweight but will provide warmth without bulk. Winter Forest Plaid boasts a malleable, drapey hand with a light texture and good stability. This winter wonder is slightly translucent (when held to the light) so will suit full or drapey styles with pleats, ruffles or gathers, or simply line with a breathable lining.

Embrace the current buffet/prairie dress styles and create full tiered dresses and skirts with this gorgeous wool and viscose fabric. Alternatively, create shirt dresses with pin-tucked and pleated details, cinch in the waist with a deep leather belt worn at the hips for a fab retro '80s style (wear with chunky boots to complete the look). Classic shirts or simple T-shirt styles made in Winter Forest Plaid will be warming and classic additions to your winter wardrobe.

A very lovely fabric which

A very lovely fabric which will make a wonderful Autumnal shirtdress. It is a fine weave which will need lining to add a greater degree of opaqueness. I am very happy with the fabric.

Lovely draping fabric.

Lovely draping soft fabric. Will make a lovely skirt cut on the cross with frills. Good quality fabric as always.

Lovely fabric

Lovely quality fabric with a nice soft handle and good crepe-like drape. I'm probably going to be making a blouse with gathers like the closet core nicks.

Perfect for a winter dress

This feels just as it was perfectly described. I think a lot of time and thought must go into the fabric descriptions and it’s great that whoever writes them has such good knowledge of how the material feels and how it will behave. I will be gathering this fabric and was hoping it wouldn’t be too bulky or bouncy and it isn’t. The colours are very subtly seasonal. Just what I was looking for for my project.

Why choose wool fabric?

Benefits of sewing with Wool! 🐑

We love wonderful wool! Why? Because it looks beautiful, well yes but did you know wool has a series of superpowers that make it the most incredible natural fibre, suitable for more garment suggestions and sewing inspiration than possibly any other?

Wool has a unique naturally crimped 3D structure which attributes to some brilliant properties & makes it a great fabric to wear throughout all the seasons.

Naturally Breathable: This amazing 3D crimped structure promotes air circulation allowing air to pass through the fabric, allowing for circulation and ventilation for your skin to breathe, keeping you cool.

Shower Resistant: Sheep naturally produce a waxy substance called lanolin. As sheep live outdoors, this naturally occurring wax helps to protect sheep from the elements, naturally shedding water & keeping them dry. This same property is retained within the wool fibres when spun into yarn.

Moisture Absorbing: The moisture-retentive superpowers of wool! It’s hydrophilic core gives wool the ability to wick away moisture keeping you dry and comfortable – this possibly one of our favourite properties because you can stay fresh when wearing wool, from autumn right through to spring!
