Rustic Smoke is a soft, nubby, textured wool and polyester blend herringbone tweed that has a large chunky weave and is perfect for coat making and cosy soft furnishings. The warp of this woollen blend is formed from a smokey beige tone, with the weft yarns providing a subtle contrast in smokey brown, together producing a truly rustic looking fabric with a sturdy and reliable look and feel.
Boasting a soft and drapey handle and good stability width wise and slight ease on the length (although with good bias stretch). The perfect for projects such as ponchos and wraps/capes where you want to feel enveloped in something that will keep all the elements out. Try a softly falling waterfall front cardigan or coat and hand fray the edges for a very bohemian style.
If your sewing skills are more advanced this will make excellent over-sized coats reminiscent of the ones worn in the '80s and '90s - those that have made a come back recently. If dressmaking isn't your forte then put this warming rustic fabric to use for quick make throws and cushions with hand frayed edges.
Historical costume makers and reenactors; this fabric has a very rustic look and feel so is perfect for a plethora of costume and prop making projects.
Benefits of sewing with Wool! 🐑
We love wonderful wool! Why? Because it looks beautiful, well yes but did you know wool has a series of superpowers that make it the most incredible natural fibre, suitable for more garment suggestions and sewing inspiration than possibly any other?
Wool has a unique naturally crimped 3D structure which attributes to some brilliant properties & makes it a great fabric to wear throughout all the seasons.
Naturally Breathable: This amazing 3D crimped structure promotes air circulation allowing air to pass through the fabric, allowing for circulation and ventilation for your skin to breathe, keeping you cool.
Shower Resistant: Sheep naturally produce a waxy substance called lanolin. As sheep live outdoors, this naturally occurring wax helps to protect sheep from the elements, naturally shedding water & keeping them dry. This same property is retained within the wool fibres when spun into yarn.
Moisture Absorbing: The moisture-retentive superpowers of wool! It’s hydrophilic core gives wool the ability to wick away moisture keeping you dry and comfortable – this possibly one of our favourite properties because you can stay fresh when wearing wool, from autumn right through to spring!
