Overview:

Black Silence is a high-quality 100% cashmere with a brushed finish, creating a cosy, mediumweight cloth for jackets. It is created with the same weave and milling processes as Black Bliss, but lighter weight, and therefore more malleable and drapey.

Specifications:

Weight: Medium

GSM: 319

Composition: 100% Cashmere

Width: 154cm / 60.6inch

Colour:

Overall: A solid black that reads a little softer than flat black, showing more life in daylight. It pairs with everything from charcoal and grey, to cream, camel and berry tones. For an outdoor-weight cloth in the same black, try its heavier sibling Black Bliss.

Shades: One solid black runs through the whole cloth, with light-reflective grey undertones where the brushed pile catches the light. No marls, flecks or blemishes.

Design: A plain cloth, woven and finished in the same way as Black Bliss, more brushed on the face than the reverse.

Bonus - no pattern repeat, so there is no matching to worry about.

Properties:

Texture: The softest brushed pile on the face, with the gentle, semi-matt surface of a lightly milled cashmere. The reverse is smoother but just as soft.

Handle: Stable and soft. Lighter than Black Bliss, hence more malleable, Black Silence eases and presses beautifully yet holds its shape as you cut and sew.

Drape: Elegantly drapey, at this weight the cloth falls and moves with the body, so wraps and coatigans hang softly rather than standing away.

Garment Suggestions:

Types: If Black Bliss was a jacket or a coat, Black Silence would be a coatigan: coatigans, elegant wraps and blazer-style jackets, plus unstructured coats, capes, ponchos and ruanas that show off the drape. Soft on both sides, it suits unlined styles.

Top tip! The face is brushed, so cut all pieces in the same direction to keep the colour even, and mark the face of each piece as you cut, as both sides are soft.

Other Uses:

Accessories: Create luxury accessories that show off the elegant drape: scarves, wraps, stoles, shawls, snoods and hats. Generous single-layer scarves need only a neat hem.

Furnishings: Blankets and luxury throws of the utmost quality: hem or bind the edges and let the fine cashmere do the rest. Make simple envelope cushions for your cosy reading chair.

Upcycling: Use every scrap of this luxurious cashmere. Rework off-cuts into collar and cuff facings, covered buttons and pocket linings, make hand warmers, or patch up a favourite cashmere jumper.
