Introduction:
Sambourne is an exquisite cotton lawn from Liberty, designed for their 'Aesthetic Renaissance' collection, created to celebrate their founder Arthur Lasenby Liberty and his creative influences as a traveller, tastemaker and English gentleman, sharing stories and anecdotes from the archive and the Liberty legend he created.
The Sambourne design was originally hand-drawn for Liberty in 1971. The title is taken from Linley Sambourne, owner of Stafford Terrace.
Colour:
Sambourne is as you would expect from a Liberty fabric, a fine cotton lawn, expertly printed with an intricate design and has a classic and timeless style. Peonies, pomegranates, tulips, iris and lilies hide amongst the decorative scrolling foliage and play an important role in this classic. Black outlines draw attention to the detailed design and feature-rich and complementary fuchsia pink and scarlet red.
Properties:
Seriously soft, (almost silk-like) finely woven, lightweight, yet with excellent opacity and good stability plus an elegant drape quality. This fabric will gather, tuck, pleat and form feminine fullness. For crisp details like collars, cuffs and button bands we recommend the use of a light/medium weight iron on interfacing.
