Introduction:

Dolomite - Fine Italian Virgin Wool Worsted is a classic superfine flat weave, ex-designer, Italian wool worsted suiting.

Colour:

Dolomite this Italian classic is woven with timeless combed, all-wool fibres of mid-grey and rust that produce a seriously stylish, melange effect akin to the red-tinged stone of the Dolomite mountains. Grey tones are perennial classics, super-smart and so versatile and this melange woven wonder is an alternative to plain grey. This has an overall puce, heather tone so will sit well with other warm tones.

Properties:

Dolomite boasts a close flat matte weave. The deceptively lightweight hand belies the opposite, wool fabrics of this quality are hard-wearing, crease-resistant, yet comfortably warm. Tailored pieces will benefit from a quality lining. Italian suitings are some of the best in the world and this is no exception. Stable in handle yet sleek and drapey and will form flattering fine gathers and pleats too!

Garment Suggestions:

Dolomite is perfect for sharply tailored suits for both men and women, but definitely not limited to suits alone. If suit-making isn't your forte, put this superb fabric to use for less formal, but equally smart outfits, such as shirt-dresses, tunics, shift dresses and skirts too.

The Merchant & Mills -Shirt Dress and Trapeze Dress will look stunning in this fabric. Our Pattern Stash - Cordelia Trousers are ideally suited to fine fabrics like this. The elegant drape achieved with the wide legs is so stylish.

There are many other patterns that will be suitable to use with Dolomite, the Sew Different - Triple Tuck Smock and Folia Frock are excellent patterns and will make elegant key pieces in this classic dark-grey worsted.

Beautiful

I can’t describe how beautiful and soft this fabric is, really looking forward to making a skirt with this which will be good for both work and home and definitely smart enough for going out when smart is called for. Comfort is the aim and this fab definitely delivers on that.

The service from Fabworks is super and cannot be faulty, I visited in person in September and this is my first online order, but definitely not my last. A really honest, friendly, trustworthy and welcoming team who understand customer service. Thank you

Why choose wool fabric?

Benefits of sewing with Wool! 🐑

We love wonderful wool! Why? Because it looks beautiful, well yes but did you know wool has a series of superpowers that make it the most incredible natural fibre, suitable for more garment suggestions and sewing inspiration than possibly any other?

Wool has a unique naturally crimped 3D structure which attributes to some brilliant properties & makes it a great fabric to wear throughout all the seasons.

Naturally Breathable: This amazing 3D crimped structure promotes air circulation allowing air to pass through the fabric, allowing for circulation and ventilation for your skin to breathe, keeping you cool.

Shower Resistant: Sheep naturally produce a waxy substance called lanolin. As sheep live outdoors, this naturally occurring wax helps to protect sheep from the elements, naturally shedding water & keeping them dry. This same property is retained within the wool fibres when spun into yarn.

Moisture Absorbing: The moisture-retentive superpowers of wool! It’s hydrophilic core gives wool the ability to wick away moisture keeping you dry and comfortable – this possibly one of our favourite properties because you can stay fresh when wearing wool, from autumn right through to spring!
