Linen & Cupro Care Guide

Here’s our very own drafted Fabworks guide on how to prep and care for your August Fabric of The Month.

For all dressmaking fabrics we do recommend ordering a little more than you need to allow for shrinkage. This linen & cupro we estimate to shrink by approximately 12%

Due to cupro’s silk-like qualities we recommend washing this fabric on a delicates cycle at 30°C using non bio detergent. Once out of the washing machine, iron the fabric whilst damp to eliminate any creases. The linen and cupro will then return to its former state with a slightly more relaxed look and feel, adding to the fabric’s appeal. Purchasing extra allows for slight shrinkage, which if washed to our guidelines, should be minimal. Silver Lining is a fabulous fabric made from a blend of two plant based fibres, giving you the best from both fibres.

Cupro is a regenerated cellulose fibre produced by treating cotton cellulose with cuprammonium salt. Cupro is basically a type of rayon yarn especially known to resemble silk. Sometimes known as artificial silk, cupro is breathable like cotton, drapes beautifully and looks and feels like silk next to your skin.

Linen is durable and strong (actually one of the only fabrics that is stronger wet than when it’s dry). Its fibres don’t stretch and are resistant to abrasion. Because the fibres have very low elasticity, linen can be prone to marking if it is folded and ironed repeatedly in the same place over time.

Combined, these two excellent natural fibres produce a fabric with only the best features, the silkiness of the cupro and the slubby look & durability of the linen. A marriage that works wonderfully.

Fabworks cannot be held responsible if the fabric gets damaged once it is in possession of the customer.
