Colour:

Shades: This classic cool-toned taupe sits beautifully between soft stone grey and muted beige, offering a balanced, understated neutral with a refined edge. Cool undertones lend the colour a calm, composed character, making it endlessly versatile and effortlessly sophisticated.

Design: Woven in a traditional uniform twill structure, the fabric presents a smooth, even surface that enhances the clean neutrality of the colour while maintaining subtle depth and texture.

Overall: A quietly confident, enduring neutral with a tailored elegance,  perfect for creating versatile, refined garments that transcend trends and seasons.

Properties:

Texture: This Uniform Wool Twill has a delightfully soft and fine texture, very similar to fine worsted suit fabrics. The wool content is noticeable to the touch but not itchy or irritating. It feels super soft and will naturally adjust to the wearer's body temperature.

Handle: This fabric is stable both widthwise and lengthwise. With its gentle bias ease, it’s a reliable all-rounder that handles beautifully and is a pleasure to sew.

Drape: Expect a soft, weighty drape with a satisfying 'swish' when used in volume. It forms crisp pleats, tucks, and elegant ruffles with excellent body. Ideal for structured silhouettes and fluid tailoring alike.

Garment Suggestions:

Types: Perfect for a range of tailored or military-inspired garments, think smart trousers, classic trench coats, coat dresses, and more. Or go bold and get creative with fit and flare dresses and occasion wear.

Patterns: Some of our favourite patterns are the Cordelia Trousers, the Ilford Jacket, the Amelia Skirt, The Coat and the Osborn Dungarees.

Other Uses:

Accessories: Perfect for creating timeless, structured pieces such as tote bags, shoulder bags, laptop sleeves, belts, caps and hats. This smart 100% wool lends itself well to accessories that call for form and durability, with a refined, understated finish.

Furnishings: Although primarily a garment fabric, Cafe Regiment can also be used for stylish, tailored home accents. Consider cushion covers, boxed-edge seat pads, blind trims and draught excluders. Ideal where a crisp, uniform-inspired aesthetic is desired.

Upcycling: Ideal for scrap-friendly projects like appliqué, patchwork or textile art. Offcuts can be transformed into contrast panels for garments, or used to create characterful soft furnishings, think fabric trays, coasters, or classic pieces like Scottie dogs, teddy bears and dachshund draught excluders.
