Introduction:

Midnight Earth & Sky - Fine Worsted Wool is suitable for a wide range of seriously smart or smart/casual clothing depending on the patterns and styles you choose to create and has a designer pedigree. Originally made by Italian craftsmen for the same designer as our SOS Collection, it is equally stunning and perfect for cross-seasonal wear throughout the year - after all, wool is naturally temperature-regulating.

Colour:

Midnight Earth & Sky is woven from a rich and dark palette. The superfine, barely there, overcheck boasts a mysterious midnight navy tone, woven through in a fine check with hints of lighter blue like a sprinkling of stars illuminating the ploughed furrows of dark and rich brown earth.

Properties:

This first-rate suiting fabric has a stable handle, length and width wise, and an exquisite no-crease drape quality too. Midnight Earth & Sky is perfect for a plethora of sewing room uses - suiting fabrics are not simply for suits of course!

Garment Suggestions:

For something a little sharper; create classic wide-legged trousers The Pattern Stash - Cordelia Trousers and matching waistcoats Jemima Waistcoat for a confident feminine style. Dress this look down with classic Fair Isle jumpers and a pair of brogues. For full-on feminine glamour go the whole hog and create a matching blazer with a velvet collar and pocket flaps, classic cuts never date.

If suit-making isn't your forte, fear not! Put this superb fabric to use for less formal, but equally smart outfits, such as shirts, tunics, pinafore dresses and skirts too. The Merchant and Mills - The Trapeze & The Rugby will look stunning in this fabric. There's also a simple drawstring-waist trouser pattern too (The 101 Trouser), which will work perfectly with Midnight Earth & Sky.

There are many other patterns available suitable to use with Midnight Earth & Sky, think clean simple lines and unfussy cuts!

Why choose wool fabric?

Benefits of sewing with Wool! 🐑

We love wonderful wool! Why? Because it looks beautiful, well yes but did you know wool has a series of superpowers that make it the most incredible natural fibre, suitable for more garment suggestions and sewing inspiration than possibly any other?

Wool has a unique naturally crimped 3D structure which attributes to some brilliant properties & makes it a great fabric to wear throughout all the seasons.

Naturally Breathable: This amazing 3D crimped structure promotes air circulation allowing air to pass through the fabric, allowing for circulation and ventilation for your skin to breathe, keeping you cool.

Shower Resistant: Sheep naturally produce a waxy substance called lanolin. As sheep live outdoors, this naturally occurring wax helps to protect sheep from the elements, naturally shedding water & keeping them dry. This same property is retained within the wool fibres when spun into yarn.

Moisture Absorbing: The moisture-retentive superpowers of wool! It’s hydrophilic core gives wool the ability to wick away moisture keeping you dry and comfortable – this possibly one of our favourite properties because you can stay fresh when wearing wool, from autumn right through to spring!
