Overview:
The larger scale herringbone of the three, woven in Yorkshire from the same fine combed worsted yarns and carrying the same lustrous sheen and softer, more fluid hand. A warp of horse chestnut brown sits against an imperial blue weft, and the two together make the most dramatic cloth in the group.

Colour:
Shades: A warp of horse chestnut or conker brown, so deep it reads almost maroon, with purple undertones that come forward the moment it meets the weft of imperial blue. That blue is a heavenly royal true blue, fit for an emperor.
Design: Larger scale worsted herringbone with a 2cm chevron repeat across the width. Brown and blue trade places at every turn of the chevron.
Overall: Rich and regal. The sheen on the worsted weft is redolent of the near iridescence of the Purple Emperor butterfly's wings.
Properties:
Texture: The combed worsted yarns give a smooth, fine surface with none of the hairiness of a woollen tweed, the larger chevrons crisply defined and catching the light along their full length.
Handle: Softer and more fluid than a traditional tweed. Stable to cut and sew, but with real give and life in the hand.
Drape: Deliciously drapey for a tweed. Holds a tailored line, but falls and moves rather than standing away from the body.
Garment Suggestions:
Types: The bolder chevron wants a garment with room to show it. Blazers, unlined jackets, waistcoats, A-line and pleated skirts, wide leg trousers and shift dresses all carry it well, and the drape supports softly tailored shapes that a stiffer tweed would fight.

Other Uses:
Accessories: Excellent for structured bags, caps, berets, scarves and wraps, where the sheen of the worsted yarn is worth showing off.
Furnishings: Cushions, throws and upholstered seat pads for a room that wants depth and colour rather than a heavy country tweed.
Upcycling: Worsted of this quality is worth saving. Offcuts rework into appliqué, patch pockets, collar and cuff facings, and covered buttons.

Locally manufactured within an 8-mile radius of Fabworks, UK-spun wool yarns sourced from across the country are put into weave at some of world’s most renowned tweed mills, located in Huddersfield (West Yorkshire, England, UK). The heritage and quality of these items represents classic British manufacturing, in the heart of The Heavy Woollen District of West Yorkshire, renowned for its expertise in wool textiles manufacture.
These are all bespoke one-off pieces that are only available at Fabworks, conjuring heritage, sentiment and locale into the curation of classy colour palettes with a colourful and eco-friendly sustainable twist.
Featuring a range of different weaves, weights and finishes, you will find herringbones, twills, tartans, block checks, birdseyes, jacquards, houndstooths & other special weaves. You may even spot some completely unique weaves in this collection, where along with our manufacturer, we have been able to create brand new & completely niche weave patterns. The weavers who produce these beautiful cloths are experts in their field, operating a small family-run setup, just like our Fabworks family, offering completely unique one-off limited runs.
