Introduction:
You don't have to be a vintage fashionista to appreciate the chic simplicity and soft hand of this fabric. If you love fine-quality silk crepe but don’t want complicated and careful washing instructions, then this is the one for you!
Colour:
As its name suggests Indigo Blue boasts a deep & rich indigo blue hue with a subtle lustrous sheen. This classic alternative to navy that will sit with a range of other colours and is perfect for creating classic silk shirt / blouse styles.
Properties:
A finely grained (almost fine horizontal ridged) texture is typical of a dress-blouse weight crepe, and Indigo Blue has a fluid, almost weighty drape quality even better across the bias and a light-medium-weight handle. This closely woven quality fabric also has good opacity so lining may not be a necessity.
Garment Suggestions:
Create garments that emphasise the elegant drape quality by choosing sewing pattern styles with softly flowing details and fine gathers. Think 1940s styles with fine gathers just below the bust, slimming darts and extending through the waist. You can even use this fabric to make elegant drapey palazzo pants, jumpsuits or culottes. Indigo Blue will gather beautifully so why not make garments with gently gathered waistlines or feminine flared '70s styles. Full-sleeved blouses with stylish classic tie-necks and softly gathered details will look impeccable (as will most classic shirt and blouse styles). Extend the classic tie-neck blouse aesthetic into a super stylish dress- a simple shirt dress or add some gathered tiers. The Megan Nielsen Protea Capsule Wardrobe is a superb pattern, perfect for use with this fabric. This is one of those fabrics that will do all the work.
Quirky with that Vintage Touch
