Garment Suggestions:

Russet & Golden Spire boasts a medium/lightweight often referred to as jacketing weight. This all-wool is stable, closely woven and has a lovely soft yet reassuringly warm drape quality. It will of course make fabulously dapper winter suits, jackets trousers and skirts. Team with Fair Isle cardigans, woolly tights and sturdy leather look brogues for retro chic. Wide-leg, high-waisted trousers will look utterly fabulous made in The Pattern Stash's Cordelia Trousers

Gents tailoring; this fabric will make super smart/casual jackets, waistcoats and trousers, why not add a matching Baker boy cap and embrace the Peaky Blinders style influence that's all over the high street? The Gentleman's Wardrobe by Vanessa Mooncie is an excellent book with patterns for a range of suitable projects which are suitable for Russet & Golden Spire.

Surprisingly great fabric

I wasn’t too enamoured when I opened my fabric parcel with this tooth check, it looked a bit flat and dull. But after deciding to use it I teamed it up with a black lining and wow! It came to life. I tried a beige lining but it didn’t give the wow feeling I got with the black, so made my choice and I was very happy with it. It sew’s up beautifully and washes well!

beautiful fabric

I ordered a sample because I wanted to check the colour. It is absolutely fabulous, nice drape and handle and the golden colour is lovely and almost glows (in a good way). Sadly it fights with my skin so I cannot use it for planned project -still like it tho so we shall see.

Why choose wool fabric?

Benefits of sewing with Wool! 🐑

We love wonderful wool! Why? Because it looks beautiful, well yes but did you know wool has a series of superpowers that make it the most incredible natural fibre, suitable for more garment suggestions and sewing inspiration than possibly any other?

Wool has a unique naturally crimped 3D structure which attributes to some brilliant properties & makes it a great fabric to wear throughout all the seasons.

Naturally Breathable: This amazing 3D crimped structure promotes air circulation allowing air to pass through the fabric, allowing for circulation and ventilation for your skin to breathe, keeping you cool.

Shower Resistant: Sheep naturally produce a waxy substance called lanolin. As sheep live outdoors, this naturally occurring wax helps to protect sheep from the elements, naturally shedding water & keeping them dry. This same property is retained within the wool fibres when spun into yarn.

Moisture Absorbing: The moisture-retentive superpowers of wool! It’s hydrophilic core gives wool the ability to wick away moisture keeping you dry and comfortable – this possibly one of our favourite properties because you can stay fresh when wearing wool, from autumn right through to spring!
