Introducing The Herringbones:

This gorgeous woollen tweed is one of twelve exclusive fabrics that form the new Heart of Huddersfield Collection for 2022. Hot off the looms and manufactured by Fabworks, from yarn through to weaving and finishing this bespoke beauty has been made in Yorkshire mills by Yorkshire folk! The HoH 2022 collection features two different coloured warps. Six of the twelve herringbones feature a soft misty grey warp, that form the Mist Herringbones. (The other six feature a dark stormy grey warp and form the Storm Herringbones.)

Read our latest blog post here to get the inside scoop on these new Herringbone fabrics.

Colour:

Squirrels’ Drey has a rich and comforting rusty palette with smoky undertones, inspired by the cheerful russet coat of the illusive red squirrel. The untidy-looking drey hides a complex home, made from dark foraged woodland finds.

Featuring chevrons of a rusty orange weft combined with tinges of the signature stormy grey within the warp give an almost fiery glow, together making a very cosy combination suggestive of the slumbering red squirrel, tightly curled up in its snug den. A nostalgic nod to Hearthside Tipple, one of the founding fabrics from our original HoH range in 2019, these rich and warming tones are the perfect remedy for the colder months.

Beautiful fabric……

And very easy to work with. I made a ladies waistcoat (Butterick 6745) and lined it with Cranberry Rain poplin, they work so well together and a dream to sew. Initially I increased the needle size for the wool - but then forgot to change it back after sewing the lining - it didn’t seem to make any difference, the materials work so well together. Such high quality fabric, and a great price. They have rekindled my interest in dressmaking.
Thank you Fabworks!

The wool is lovely and warm to wear!

I chose the Squirrels Drey - Storm Herringbone for my waistcoat as it was the one that appealed to me most, red is my favourite colour so the deep and dark orange was closest to that. - Lyndon

The Heart of Huddersfield is easy to work with, has a good handle and is just lovely to sew with. A tip to fellow beginner sewists using these gorgeous wools, or just sewers in general, trim your seams down on the inside for less bulk! This helps massively, especially on areas like the waistband. - Claudia
