Colour:

Shades: Aerial Landscape invites you to imagine an aerial view of fresh summertime fields, where neatly organised pockets of lush green and sunlit golden crops sway gently in the breeze. This scene is reinterpreted through yarn and weave, as richly textured threads pass rhythmically under and over one another, creating depth, movement and visual intrigue within a clever basket-weave structure.

Design: A richly textured basket weave construction formed from grouped yarns, creating raised, pocket-like areas that add sculptural interest and a playful, couture-level surface quality.

Overall: A statement textile of exceptional character, Aerial Landscape blends heritage Irish weaving with bold, fashion-forward texture. Expressive, tactile and unapologetically decorative, it is a fabric designed for standout pieces that celebrate artistry and individuality.

Properties:

Texture: The use of assorted yarns, from cotton chenille to wool bouclé and classic fine all-wool yarns, produces a satisfyingly tactile surface, rich in contrast yarns and feel.

Handle: The fabric boasts a semi-loose weave due to the arrangement of grouped yarns, forming open, pocket-like stitch areas. The combination of velvety chenille and silky curls of bouclé wool creates a luxuriously soft, cuddle-worthy hand.

Drape: A reassuringly weighty drape can be achieved with this fabric, lending itself well to structured and dramatic silhouettes or simpler garments where the fabric does all the talking.

Garment Suggestions:

Types: Aerial Landscape makes superb fancy tweed couture pieces, edge-to-edge jackets and statement coats. Care should be taken to avoid catching or pulling the yarns. This iconic style echoes the celebrated textured tweeds made famous by a leading French fashion house, whose designs have been worn since the 1950s.

Interlining is recommended to help stabilise the fabric. Alternative silhouettes include loose, unstructured styles such as ponchos, capes, wraps and blanket-style unlined coats or cardigans. Make use of the fringed selvedge as a feature detail on leading edges and cuffs, and elevate edge-to-edge jackets with velvet trim for true designer flair.

Patterns: We recommend fabrics such as the Ilford Jacket, the Phoebe CoatThe BlazerThe Coat and the Yanaka Jacket.

Other Uses:

Accessories: Create matching accessories such as neck warmers, stoles and capelets, or use this fabric to make the ultimate designer-inspired handbag.

Upcycling: Use every scrap to create striking hanging art, textile panels or appliqué scenery pieces that showcase the fabric’s sculptural texture.

Avoca Deadstock Fabrics

Fabworks x Avoca

Fabworks’ association with Avoca began in 2011, when Fabworks Mill Shop was only a fraction of what it is today, and way before Fabworks Online existed. We were approached by Avoca with an offer to buy their surplus fabric from the previous seasons' collections. What an opportunity! A deal was struck, and what arrived at our warehouse a few weeks later was the most amazing selection of Irish-made pure wool fabrics, plus all the accessorising elements within the Avoca ladieswear collection (elaborate trimmings, gorgeous embroidered silks, lightweight satins, Liberty jerseys) and the cherry on top of the cake – Irish-made Donegal Tweed!

The working relationship between Fabworks and Avoca blossomed over the next few years and allowed Fabworks to develop its focus on high end ladies’ dressmaking fabrics and away from the lower end of the textiles market.

Four years and several thousand metres of fabric later, Fabworks took a bigger step than ever before, and collaborated with Avoca to commission its own range of Irish-made pure wool fabrics which marked the launch of Fabworks Online, November 16th 2015. This was a defining moment for Fabworks, being the very first collection of fabrics that we commissioned ourselves. With a range of herringbones in iconic Avoca colour-rich palettes, this was Fabworks’ first taste of proper manufacturing in the 21st century.
