Design: A finely woven cotton muslin with an open, mesh-like construction, created using a simple flat weave that promotes breathability and lightness.
Overall: Fabrics of this kind, all cotton, stable, breathable, light, airy, and softly draping, are exceptionally versatile. Muslin has been used for thousands of years, from wrapping food and preserving goods to creating delicate embroidered garments and romantic, flowing sheer curtains.
Properties:
Texture: A fine, slightly grainy texture with softly spun cotton yarns that feel lightly brushed and gentle. The fabric has the unmistakable character of a natural, breathable and absorbent cotton cloth.
Handle: Stable in both width and length, with gentle natural bias ease, making it easy to cut, sew and manipulate for gathers or embroidery.
Drape: This 100% cotton muslin drapes lightly and airily, with a soft, fluid handle that lends itself beautifully to historical undergarments, gathered garments and sheer layering pieces. As is often the case with Cotton Muslin, this fabric is very sheer and will require lining or layering if used for clothes making.
Garment Suggestions:
Types: Perfect for finely gathered blouses, tunics, and lightweight summer garments. It also works beautifully as underlining for sheer fabrics, modesty layers, or historical costume undergarments. The natural cotton base is excellent for dyeing, experimental textile work, and mixed-media projects, while the stable open weave makes it ideal for embroidery and embellishment.
Keep in mind that this fabric is sheer and will require lining or be used as a layering piece.
