Overview:

This collection of medium-weight tartan twill fabrics, woven in Yorkshire from pure wool, represents the very best in British textile craftsmanship. Once reserved for princes and aristocracy, these iconic checks and bold colour combinations carry centuries of tradition. Shades:  This Yorkshire woven Navy Menzies is a striking version of the historically rich fabric that reflects the heritage of the clan it takes its name from. The original tartan is famously minimal (often just black and white), the stark combination making it visually unique and thought to symbolise the clan's boldness and clarity of purpose.

This version features a deep navy blue base that is interwoven with intersecting warp and weft stripes, creating a striking but unfussy tartan checked design. This bi-colour tartan is easily interpreted into a wide range of fashion and apparel.

Design: A closely woven twill fabric woven using multi coloured warp and weft yarns to form the Tartan design, the worsted yarns used in the twill weave add clarity of colour and definition to the design's sett, also assisting and enhancing the fabric's hand.

Overall: A strong and unique tartan where the dark navy symbolises strength, authority, dignity and formality. Natural white symbolising peace, purity, and truth. A timeless tartan, easily interpreted in a wide range of apparel and home styles. Imagine this classic tartan made into a skirt or trousers, teamed with a crisp white shirt and red cashmere jumper.

Properties:

Texture: Navy Menzies Tartan is a closely woven, all-wool worsted fabric with a versatile medium/light weight. It offers the look and character of traditional wool while being softer and more comfortable against the skin. It boasts a refines twill texture.

Handle: A stable, closely woven fabric that is hard-wearing and made to last. Perfect for structured pleats and tailored details.

Drape: In addition to holding crisp details, this fabric drapes with a reassuring weight, ideal for bias cuts, flares, and flounced designs. The tartan sett can be cleverly used to create striking focal points in bespoke garments and creative pieces.
