Introduction:

Silk Road is a first-rate, horizontally striped, woven (not printed) silken shirt-weight fabric has so many plus points you will certainly want to make more than shirts from it.

Colour:

A profusion of purple grape and wine-hued stripes sit side by side with fresh accents of white in this jaunty and fine designer striped fabric. There's something decadent about rich lilac purple and deep wine placed together, think of the opulent and painterly Bearded Iris flowers with their striped throats and lush petals. Make a statement in this masterly stripe.

Properties:

This designer striped shirting is cleverly woven with superfine silk yarns forming the warp to produce a silken yet strong base for the viscose yarns woven through the weft forming the iconic horizontal Regatta stripes. Lilac-purple forms the base for lightly raised textured twill woven horizontal ribbons which flank fresh interiors of white.

Looks alone aren't the only attribute, this excellent fabric boasts a seriously malleable hand. Silk Road is soft and stable, with a viscous soft yet reassuring drape quality which will form gorgeous gathers, flouncy frills and delicious drapes. It will of course make neat pin-tucks and crisp collars and cuffs with the help of a little light iron-on interfacing. Shirt-weight fabrics are a sewing room staple whether you're a crafter or a seamstress and certainly not just for shirt-making.

Garment Suggestions:

Silk Road will make fabulous shirts and blouses (the ones you never want to take off) also imagine traditional pyjamas and nightdresses/ shirts with piped collars and monogrammed pockets. Create the sweetest traditional baby rompers, sailor suits and pretty dresses. Fashion yourself stylish summer dresses; shirtdress style, fit & flare or simple tea dress styles with pretty gathered skirts.

Simple T-shirt style tops, smock style tops like the Sagebrush Top (by Friday Pattern Co) or the Peasant Top Tie Shirt Pattern Sew Different substitute new pink city collection. Create wonderfully up-to-date colour-blocked styles with similar stripes in different hues- shirts with contrasting fronts, sleeves, collars and cuffs. Create the Megan Nielsen Protea Capsule Wardrobe and use different coloured tiers and bodices with all our wonderful striped shirting fabrics.

Other Uses:

This versatile fabric is an ideal addition to your crafting stash for patchwork, applique and so much more. Stripes sit perfectly with ginghams, spots and ditsy florals.

NB: this fabric is woven with horizontal stripes therefore consideration will be needed when working out your fabric meterage for pattern layout.
