About This Fabric

Melton: The black melton 100% wool fabric, included in the FoTM offer, has been sourced from a high end garment manufacturer in the UK whose surplus stock is available in short lengths, ranging from 2.8m to 7m each. This black melton features a lovely softly brushed finish, is of a medium weight (GSM: 550-650), and offers a supple hand yet is still strong, suitable for both structured and unstructured pieces.

Satin: The lightweight ex-designer satin, included in the FoTM offer, is a firm favourite and the perfect fabric to introduce colour and style when used alongside the plain black melton. Sourced from a renowned UK fashion brand as deadstock fabric in 2022, these colourful lightweight satins are a bit too good to use as linings really, yet will harmonise the overall palette and add that finishing touch. What beautiful fabric!
I ordered one bundle including the frosted foliage satin just before Christmas so wasn’t expecting to receive it until the new year. Just before the end of the month, I started to worry. What if there isn’t enough of the Melton wool fabric for the pattern I’ve chosen so decided to order another bundle but this time without the additional satin fabric.
They arrived within a day of each other. Both pieces of melton wool are beautiful. However, they are not the same weight of fabric so I can’t use them on the same garment. The first package does actually have sufficient for my chosen coat pattern. The second package, the heavier weight fabric, is sufficient to make another coat from a different pattern. So I’m going to be able to make two coats. Win, win! I can’t wait to get started on them now.

Nice surprise

I ordered the FOTM a little late and had a call from a lovely chap explaining there was a problem as they didn’t have any decent sizes left. He wanted to know if I was happy to accept two smaller sizes. I eventually agreed to accept a size suiting my needs that had a small hole near the edge in it. As I was away he agreed to delay sending the parcel until I returned. I am very pleased with the excellent quality that exceeded my expectations, and the size is just right for the garment I had in mind. Thank you to the gentleman who contacted me and the super customer service. I will be ordering from Fabworks again.
