Overview:

Drovers Cream is 100% wool, a dense, heavyweight Melton in a natural fleece cream with a subtle marl. It carries scattered black flecks, so it is offered at a reduced price.

If you love Drovers Cream, you'll love its sisters: Natural Cream, Herdsman Cream, Bergere Cream and Aries Cream.

Specifications:

Weight: Heavy

GSM: 748

Composition: 100% Wool

Width: 150cm / 59.1inch

Perfectly Imperfect Notice:

This is deadstock cloth, rescued from going to waste. This roll carries small black flecks scattered across the cream surface of the cloth. Because of this fault, it is offered at a reduced price. Please look at the photographs and order a sample to judge the effect before you buy. We recommend allowing extra fabric so you can place your pattern pieces around the most noticeable flecks.

Colour:

Overall: A natural fleece cream with a subtle marl.

Shades: Woven from natural cream yarns, the natural colour of a sheep's fleece, with a subtle marled effect. Neutral tones are extremely versatile and convey natural and comforting simplicity, much admired for historical accuracy and by textile artists for use as a blank canvas.

Design: A solid-hued, plain Melton, woven and then milled to give its felt-like finish.

Properties:

Texture: Closely woven and felted, with a traditional wool feel and a pronounced brushed surface. Both sides have the same felted surface, making them naturally water-repellent. Please note that the nap may be prone to pilling after frequent wear.

Handle: Stable, with little fraying on the cut edges - a skilfully crafted fabric that will do as it's told.

Drape: A heavy drape quality that feels like a protective hug; this fabric will keep the elements out.

Garment Suggestions:

Types: Classic outerwear: start with gilets and waistcoats, then move on to jackets, coats and capes, from classic pea coats and duffle coats to field jackets, country clothing and oversized statement pieces. It is also ideal for donkey jacket styles with leather or PU yokes, teamed with leather or oilcloth. Historical costume makers and reenactors will find it ideal for period costume.

Patterns: Browse our Sewing Patterns for Heavy Wools & Coatings for coats, jackets and capes, and our own Pattern Stash designs: try the Jemima Waistcoat for the perfect place to start.

Other Uses:

Accessories: Complete your outfits with matching accessories: hats, caps, neck warmers, mittens and wrist-warmers.

Furnishings: If clothes-making isn't your forte, this cloth is excellent for upholstery and soft furnishing projects such as rustic seat pads, boxed cushions and footstools. It is ideal for blankets and throws too.

Upcycling: Offcuts make an ideal base for 2D needle-felted projects such as bags, cushions and wall hangings, or personalise them with appliqué and team with your Tweed offcuts for a wonderful combination. As a natural blank canvas, it is much admired by textile artists.
