Nature's Song - Greenfinch Birdseye - Yorkshire Tweed is a gorgeous all wool tweed. Manufactured in Huddersfield undergoing the same processes as our exclusive Heart of Huddersfield range. This fabric is not one of Fabworks' own exclusive designs.
There are six sumptuous yarns that make up this gorgeous birdseye weave. Pale marled grey, charcoal with undertones of brown, and a natural white sit together to form the warp. The warp is like the fabric’s base layer or it’s foundation (hover over the photographs for a close-up of this colour detailing). The weft yarns are the bespoke colours that bring the fabric to life. The weft of Greenfinch Birdseye features three delicious multi tonal yarns; one of delightful multi tonal green (the colour of pretty little Greenfinch birds feathers), alongside the charcoal and marled grey (which also appear in the warp). Combining these yarns creates mesmerising depth within this complex and unique weave.
This stunning wool tweed brings to mind those sweet garden birds with their plumage of green and grey hues with highlights of natural white. The rounded birdseye weave echoing the sweet rounded bodies and cheeky bright eyes. Calming and an easy on the eye, if you love the soft delicate tones of this stunning 100% wool, match it with other cool toned tweeds for a complementary palette.

Boasting a stable handle and reassuring drape, Nature's Song is perfect for a plethora of sewing room projects. An intricately woven fabric that will do as you tell it. Woollen fabrics of this kind are easy to sew and will stand the test of time too.

Wool weaving lesson #1: every fabric must have a warp (length ways yarn) and a weft (edge-edge/width yarn). The warp is always one continuous run of yarns, as it’s on the length. The warp is the same throughout all the Birdseye Spin-Offs.
The weft is what determines this fabric’s colour detailing, bringing the fabric to life. Combining these yarns (3 warp, 3 weft) creates mesmerising depth within this complex and unique birdseye weave. Pale marled grey, charcoal and natural white yarns sit together to form the warp, whereas the weft combination has been tweaked slightly at each run interval with one different yarn, effectively producing an accent colour and giving the fabric its own individuality and spin-off, in a collection of very similar fabrics. The quality is all in the detail.
Why choose wool fabric? Benefits of sewing with Wool! 🐑
We love wonderful wool! Why? Because it looks beautiful, well yes but did you know wool has a series of superpowers that make it the most incredible natural fibre, suitable for more garment suggestions and sewing inspiration than possibly any other?
Wool has a unique naturally crimped 3D structure which attributes to some brilliant properties & makes it a great fabric to wear throughout all the seasons.
Naturally Breathable: This amazing 3D crimped structure promotes air circulation allowing air to pass through the fabric, allowing for circulation and ventilation for your skin to breathe, keeping you cool.
Shower Resistant: Sheep naturally produce a waxy substance called lanolin. As sheep live outdoors, this naturally occurring wax helps to protect sheep from the elements, naturally shedding water & keeping them dry. This same property is retained within the wool fibres when spun into yarn.
Moisture Absorbing: The moisture-retentive superpowers of wool! It’s hydrophilic core gives wool the ability to wick away moisture keeping you dry and comfortable – this possibly one of our favourite properties because you can stay fresh when wearing wool, from autumn right through to spring!
