Keep In Line - Black Utility Cotton is a versatile 100% cotton fabric woven with subtle detail. Horizontal lines (pinstripes) are highlighted through slightly lustrous yarns. The slightly raised profile is similar to an ottoman weave and adds interest to an otherwise plain fabric. This versatile fabric is somewhere between shirting cotton and a lightweight drill/twill, perfect to dress up or dress down, consider this luxe utility fabric.

Keep In Line boasts excellent stability and reassuring drape quality, making it perfect for a mountain of uses! This fabric will hold crisp details like collars and cuffs plus it will form superb ruffles, gathers, and pleats. Denim and chambray styles have perennial appeal. The useful tone of this fabric and its siblings suit most skin tones and sit with so many other things in your wardrobe. A natural fibre blend makes this beauty strong yet breathable and kind to sensitive skin - perfect for clothing all members of the family,  from seriously smart shirts to lightweight dungarees and pinafore dresses.

Create unique shirts and blouses, shirt dresses, tunics, and the most elegant and wearable dresses you will return to season after season. Play with the direction of the stripes and use them to draw attention to panelled styles. Vogue Patterns V9357 and V9293 are excellent dress patterns with gently flared skirts and directional stripe details, perfect for wearing through spring and summer and layering up into autumn. If trousers are more your style, the Zadie Jumpsuit from - Paper Theory Patterns has similar lines to V1672.

Utility styles are super useful and never date, The Assembly Line Patterns are ideal for utility styles as are Merchant & Mills and The Makers Atelier. There are of course lots of other fabulous pattern brands out there, just choose patterns that let the fabric sell itself.

Amazing quality

I read the reviews before buying this fabric and thought that if it was half as good as people said it was worth a try.
It’s better. It’s crisp, didn’t crease too badly when washed and is the perfect weight to make a wide range of garments.
To be aware though, that there is a lot of excess dye in the fabric. I pre soaked it in tepid water before washing in case I ended up with fade lines when it came out of the machine (it didn’t happen). I changed the water three times and there was still excess dye being released. I washed it on its own and will do the same for the finished dress.
I’m looking forward to making this one up.

Bought again

I've decided to write an other comment after my second purchase, just to reiterate my praises!
I'm seriously considering to make myself a walking skirt with it. This stuff is gorgeous. Or maybe to use it as lining if the fashion fabric ends being a nice thick wool.

If it's of some use, this is the pre-shrinking info:
Cotton cycle, 60ºC
Warp (length) = 97.6% (412cm to 402)
Weft (width) = 0% (none observed)

Great cotton

Such a marvel to work with: easy to iron, easy to sew, holds folds crisp and it's so strong!

Better than it sounds!

I’ve been looking at this, and resisting it as it sounded non amazing… but I’m so glad I got some. Bargain, and lovely. Light enough for warm weather, and a good crisp structure. Very Cos style. Would make great shirt dress, but I’ll do trousers and a boxy top, can’t wait to sew it. Has washed and dried beautifully without ironing
