Introducing The Jewels of Yorkshire:

At first glance, these may look like simple mediumweight Melton fabrics, but take a closer look to see a wealth of weaving expertise is revealed. The lightly brushed yarns are closely woven in a complex herringbone weave, producing a fabric with excellent stability, reassuring drape and a cosy brushed, lightly textured appearance – in other words, a small basket weave.

These combined factors produce a lovely melange of tones, as the warp and weft yarns pass under and over. There is definitely a lot more than meets the eye in this subtly textured quality wool fabric.

The Jewels of Yorkshire are solid, bold-coloured fabrics, perfect for lifting your winter wardrobe! Designed to coordinate and complement the weaves of Heart of Huddersfield: Thistledown MarlHerringboneMarled MeltonYorkshire Melton and Birdseye. When it comes to sewing, we have a whole host of fabulous suggestions for teaming the Jewels of Yorkshire with other coordinating HoH wools. We'll be bringing you a blog on this very soon!

Colour Detailing:

Tarnside Teal is inspired by the jewel tones of Teal Tourmaline and Teal Sapphire (blue/green hues). There is an indulgent opulence surrounding teal. A true classic, mixing blue and green tones to create this perennially popular shade.

Find it in nature in deep-water tarns and in the calm seas of Yorkshire's deep harbours. Then think of the bird whose plumage inspired its name, the beautiful Teal Duck.

This spectacular creature is not a native of Yorkshire but can certainly be found swimming proudly on the re-purposed mining land at Fairburn Ings. Mother Nature displays this often-iridescent hue in Mayflies and Kingfishers. This was our inspiration for Thistledown Marl - Demoiselle Teal, it sits beautifully in harmony with Tarnside Teal

Colour Coordination:

The jewel tones in this new collection are all complementary and will sit perfectly together as colour blocks in complete outfits or mix and match with other fabrics from the existing HOH range. Take a look at Tarnside Teal with Miraculous Magenta, those jewel hues are to die for!

For an eye-catching visual and textural contrast, how about the golden hues of Thistledown Marl - Runny Honey?

Tarnside Teal - Twill Melton

Exquisite Quality with rich beautiful teal colour as in the photograph. Has a slightly rough feel as one would expect from natural wool, but after lining would make a really high quality and warm coat for the winter. Thank you.
