Specifications:

GSM: 324

Composition: 100% Cotton

Width: 150cm / 59inch

Introduction:

This strangely named fabric takes its name from the soft and velvet-like coat of the underground creature the mole, thankfully no moles were harmed in its production. Moleskin is very similar to velvet but is denser and has a matte finish with no lustre.

Colour:

This classic navy tone is deep and rich with a soft matte appearance perfect for sitting alongside other blue-toned fabrics for a smart country palette. Team with corduroy, wool tweed and brushed flannel shirtings for authentic country style.

Properties:

This wonderful, heavyweight moleskin fabric is constructed with a high thread count warp and weft construction, producing a particularly sturdy close-weave fabric. The beautifully smooth sateen/twill weave makes the fabric resistant to the elements, and snag as well as tear-resistant, making it perfect for tough country clothing and outerwear. The face side of Classic Navy has a brushed velvet-like finish that’s soft and cosy to the touch.

Moleskins were traditionally used in protective clothing production for industrial workers and those with tough outdoor jobs. Now popular for country wear, bush craft styles, hunting shooting, fishing and many other outdoor pursuits. Its beautiful sateen weave, stable handle, heavyweight and classic country colourway make this moleskin perfect for a plethora of practical and classic clothing. Use instead of a wool coating for those who cannot wear or dislike wool.

Lovely fabric

I use this fabric to make a coat and lined it with the liberty style cotton pima lawn ginko leaf shadows. I’ve used cotton moleskin before for other projects so was confident using it for my first attempt at a coat. It is beautiful fabric, feels luxurious and was easy to handle and sew. I’m a novice, but very pleased with the result.
