Introduction:

Classic Charcoal is suitable for a wide range of smart or casual clothing depending on the patterns and styles you choose to create and has a designer pedigree. Originally made for the same designer as our SOS Collection, it's equally stunning and perfect for cross-seasonal wear.

Colour:

Classic Charcoal is sketchy dark grey charcoal tones that predominate throughout this first-rate wool flannel. Woven in the melange fashion with a subtle mottled effect of lighter and darker tones, the fine silver brushed fibres give the fabric a cosy look and feel. Classic Charcoal has a super soft feel with a stable handle making the fabric hard-wearing and easy to care for.

Properties:

A delightful drape quality means Classic Charcoal will keep you cosy and comfortable while helping to create a capsule wardrobe of key pieces. This versatile fabric will form excellent pleats, ruffles and flared details such as peplums and flounces.

Grey tones are easy to wear, just add pops of bright colour for something different, or classic jewel-toned purples, lilacs and teal tones for an effortlessly chic style.

Garment Suggestions:

Classic Charcoal this classic woollen fabric shouldn’t only be consigned to gentlemen’s wardrobes – it has a wonderful soft drape quality that is perfect for ladies’ clothing too! It's a great all-rounder to put to use for a host of sewing projects.

Tailors, rejoice: this is a tailoring classic - perfect for jackets, trousers and waistcoats. For ladies, it's ideal for most skirt styles, as well as for pinafore dresses, stretch dresses and dresses which require a good drape quality. This fabric is also perfect for hats, caps, bags and crafts, etc.

Why choose wool fabric?

Benefits of sewing with Wool! 🐑

We love wonderful wool! Why? Because it looks beautiful, well yes but did you know wool has a series of superpowers that make it the most incredible natural fibre, suitable for more garment suggestions and sewing inspiration than possibly any other?

Wool has a unique naturally crimped 3D structure which attributes to some brilliant properties & makes it a great fabric to wear throughout all the seasons.

Naturally Breathable: This amazing 3D crimped structure promotes air circulation allowing air to pass through the fabric, allowing for circulation and ventilation for your skin to breathe, keeping you cool.

Shower Resistant: Sheep naturally produce a waxy substance called lanolin. As sheep live outdoors, this naturally occurring wax helps to protect sheep from the elements, naturally shedding water & keeping them dry. This same property is retained within the wool fibres when spun into yarn.

Moisture Absorbing: The moisture-retentive superpowers of wool! It’s hydrophilic core gives wool the ability to wick away moisture keeping you dry and comfortable – this possibly one of our favourite properties because you can stay fresh when wearing wool, from autumn right through to spring!
