Specifications:

Weight: Medium

GSM: 326

Composition: Cashmere & Virgin Wool

Width: 150cm / 59.1inch

Colour:

Silken Flax is a luxurious neutral beige tone, the colour of natural flax fibres combed to a lustrous sheen. This pale sandy beige has cool tones and will sit harmoniously with cool greys, or warm things up with warmer tones of camel, tan and, caramel. Neutral hues are excellent for wardrobe staples that go with almost everything and add an air of timeless elegance.

Properties:

Silken Flax is a closely woven, lightly felted then brushed (to a gleaming lustre like the coat of a pedigree). This medium-weight woollen twill fabric is hardwearing, but not too cumbersome. This fabric is stable width and lengthwise yet is malleable, soft and cosy with a reassuring drape quality that's so super soft we believe it has a touch of cashmere in it.

Garment Suggestions:

Use Silken Flax to make classic coats and capes, ladies' and men's Pea coats, blazers, The Avid Seamstress - The Blazer capes and '80s / '90s style overcoats. There are a plethora of patterns aimed at confident beginners and intermediate sewists for you to choose from.

The Avid Seamstress - The Coat, and Sew Different's - Cocoon Coat will be sublime when made up of Silken Flax. If you want a quick make, take advantage of the low fray qualities of doeskin, felted type wools and create waterfall front coatigans with simple belt closures, these are easy to make and are excellent for layering

Other Uses:

Create quality accessories to accompany your coats, capes and blazers; Hats, caps and scarves, neck warmers are ideal projects perfect for teaming with checked or plaids for extra interest.

Why choose wool fabric?

Benefits of sewing with Wool! 🐑

We love wonderful wool! Why? Because it looks beautiful, well yes but did you know wool has a series of superpowers that make it the most incredible natural fibre, suitable for more garment suggestions and sewing inspiration than possibly any other?

Wool has a unique naturally crimped 3D structure which attributes to some brilliant properties & makes it a great fabric to wear throughout all the seasons.

Naturally Breathable: This amazing 3D crimped structure promotes air circulation allowing air to pass through the fabric, allowing for circulation and ventilation for your skin to breathe, keeping you cool.

Shower Resistant: Sheep naturally produce a waxy substance called lanolin. As sheep live outdoors, this naturally occurring wax helps to protect sheep from the elements, naturally shedding water & keeping them dry. This same property is retained within the wool fibres when spun into yarn.

Moisture Absorbing: The moisture-retentive superpowers of wool! It’s hydrophilic core gives wool the ability to wick away moisture keeping you dry and comfortable – this possibly one of our favourite properties because you can stay fresh when wearing wool, from autumn right through to spring!
