Colour:

Shades: This classic wool tweed takes its inspiration from a windswept woodland glen at dusk: weathered stone outcrops, mist clinging to the ground, clusters of wild red berries, and hints of hardy green foliage peeking through lichen-clad rocks. A heathered grey runs throughout the whole of this tweed, suggesting and providing a misted quality to the whole. Feature bands of a muted teal - aqua grey melange (suggesting cool water tones) are flanked by a charcoal - malachite green melange, adding forest depth. The primary hue of rich redcurrant evokes forest treasures, berries and fruits, adding a warmth to the plaid.

Design: Plaid - The word "plaid" originally comes from the Scottish Gaelic word "plaide", meaning blanket or woollen cloth, and now is the term for a generic checked woollen fabric. Woodland Dusk is a pattern of crisscrossed horizontal and vertical bands in multiple colours. Similar checked woollen patterns were used by Celtic tribes throughout the British Isles and Europe.

Overall: A sophisticated countryside palette with pops of colour for modern styling. This tweed feels rustic yet refined, earthy yet vivid, perfect for heritage-inspired tailoring or upscale interiors. Blended with a bold heartbeat. The red accent adds an edge and the opportunity to emphasise this tone with accessories.

Properties:

Texture: This all wool Yorkshire Heritage Tweed features a classic wool outerwear texture that balances ruggedness with comfort. Typically fibrous, yet cosy and protective against the elements, naturally insulating, it traps air between fibres, providing warmth without being stifling. Breathable and resistant to wind, though not fully windproof.

Handle: The fabric holds its structure well and is stable along both the width and length, making it ideal for tailored garments like blazers or sport coats, and so much more. These traditional wool tweeds are perfect for soft furnishing and craft purposes.

Drape: Woodland Dusk will drape reassuringly when used at length. It will form neat pleats with structure and softer flares and flounces where required. A natural bias ease provides the opportunity for manipulating the fabric with steam for tailoring purposes.

Garment Suggestions:

Types: This is the perfect fabric for layering pieces in the cooler months, outerwear such as jackets, coats and poncho-style pullovers. Also ideal for more structured pieces, such as tailored jackets and waistcoats.

Alternatively, make use of the gentle bias ease and create high fashion-inspired dresses, skirts and pinafores with lots of voluminous movement.

Patterns: We recommend patterns such as the Ilford Jacket, the Kusama Jacket, the Kyoto Jacket, the Lyon Jacket, the Phoebe Coat, The Blazer, The Coat, the Jemima Waistcoat and the Verona Jacket.

Other Uses:

Accessories: This durable fabric is perfect for making matching accessories that coordinate. We think of matching handbags using The Frame Bag pattern or tote bags. Make yourself cosy hats and fingerless gloves.

Furnishings: This fabric is also suitable for soft furnishings and reupholstery projects, recovering your favourite worn stool or ottoman or breathing new life into the old inherited chair. There is bound to be a colour way in this collection that will suit your palette.

Upcycling: Make sure to use every part of your fabric and don't throw your scraps. Use for both crafting and sewing projects, such as lavender bags, applique scenes or patching up your favourite jeans, use for rag rugging or even patchwork together with other scraps and make your furry friends matching coats to keep them warm when out in nature. The opportunities are endless.
