About The Remnant Pieces
Each 1kg unit has a random assortment of quality all-wool remnants & off-cuts, of varied weights, weaves and textures of classic wools, soft merinos to gentle lambswools.
Woven by a heritage mill, the same supplier as the cashmere lengths. These quality remnants & off-cuts are a delight for the senses, both visually and texturally. The pieces vary in weight, weave and texture, from the finest suit and challis weights to mid-weight flannels and twills as well as heavier coat weights. Every bag is packed at random, so the contents vary and no two kilograms are the same.
How To Use The Wool Remnants
Use these pieces for patchwork garments, cushions and soft furnishings, and the most unbelievable textile art, appliqué and embroidery. Make luxury rag rugs, doll clothes, soft toys and sculptures, fabric-covered books, bags and other cosy accessories for you and your home.
A kilo of quality off-cuts and remnants is a crafting stash, and this is where wool earns its keep: it is sturdier than cashmere, it felts, it takes hard wear, and it washes. Here are a few ideas to get the imagination going. Many make fun stocking fillers for Christmas. Needle-felting bases and wet felting projects, where the heavier woollens shine.
Use the mixed weights, weaves and tones for patchwork and appliqué, teddy and doll’s clothes, fabric flowers and brooches on a wire stem or stitched to hats and bags. Pocket linings and patches for coats, jackets and work trousers. Coasters, mug rugs and table mats from the coat weights.
Stress cuddles: a simple mini cushion from two rectangles, which need not match in weight, stuffed lightly. A bolster shape works too, or a weighted chair arm pocket, a bit like a short pair of oven gloves, with a little weight on the seat side and a pocket on the outside for your paperback and your mints.
Pincushion rugby balls: draw up your own segment pattern, stitch the ball together with caps over each end and stuff firmly. Wool holds pins beautifully and the heavier pieces make a pincushion that stays put.
