Colour:

Shades: A true Classic Black, chosen for its timeless appeal and understated elegance. Deep, rich, and unwavering, this shade has a long heritage in fine wool fabrics and remains endlessly versatile.

Design: Woven in a traditional Barathea structure, this fabric features a broken twill weave that creates a subtle pebbled texture across the surface. The result is a refined, matte appearance that adds quiet interest without shine. Finished with a woven selvedge for a polished, high-quality edge.

Overall: Elegant, composed, and quietly confident. This fabric balances visual depth with restraint, offering a classic look that feels both traditional and relevant, perfect for garments that call for refinement without excess.

Properties:

Texture: Soft and pleasing to the touch with a distinctive matte finish. The Barathea weave avoids the sheen of satin or plain twill, instead offering a smooth, gently textured surface that feels refined and luxurious.

Handle: Sturdy, resilient, and stable, with excellent recovery. This fabric is hard-wearing and dependable, holding its shape beautifully through wear while remaining comfortable and manageable during sewing.

Drape: Heavy and reassuring, with a controlled, elegant fall. It holds pleats, creases, and structured details exceptionally well without appearing bulky, making it ideal for tailored and formal silhouettes.

Garment Suggestions:

Types: Ideal for sharply tailored garments and pieces that benefit from structure and polish. Think tailored trousers, evening jackets, waistcoats, blazers, skirts, dresses, and formalwear. This fabric is especially well-suited to designs that rely on crisp lines, pleats, and a refined silhouette.

Patterns: A great match for patterns such as the Cordelia Trousers, the Ilford Jacket, the Amelia Skirt, The Coat, the Osborn Dungarees and other classic tailoring or occasion-wear designs that showcase structure and clean finishing.

Other Uses:

Accessories: Perfect for smart, structured accessories, including bags, clutches, laptop sleeves, hats, and caps. The dense weave and matte finish give accessories a timeless, formal feel with excellent durability.

Furnishings: While primarily a garment fabric, it can also be used for tailored home accents such as cushion covers, bench pads, draught excluders, and decorative panels where a sleek, understated look is desired.

Upcycling: Excellent for smaller projects and offcuts. Ideal for appliqué, patchwork, heirloom-style accessories, fabric trays, needle cases, or refined soft furnishings that benefit from structure and longevity.
