Introduction:

Rich Raisin & White Sketchy Check is suitable for a wide range of seriously smart or smart/casual clothing depending on the patterns and styles you choose to create and has a designer pedigree. Originally made by Italian craftsmen for the same designer as our SOS Collection, it is equally stunning and perfect for cross-seasonal wear throughout the year.

Colour:

Rich red/brown raisin hues are complemented by a fine white sketchy overcheck which creates an interesting detail that's subtle (not showy), producing a versatile version of a timeless checked wool-blend flannel.

Properties:

Rich Raisin & White Sketchy Check is stable both width and lengthwise (with just enough elastane for comfort across the width), has a close weave and soft, cosy feel that's not at all itchy, plus a lovely soft drape quality too.

Garment Suggestions:

This soft and drapey fabric will of course make classic suits but remember our mantra, suiting is not just for suits. Rich Raisin & White Sketchy Check will also make feminine pinafore dresses for ladies and girls too, plus a simple pencil and mini skirts perfect for teaming with thick winter tights, throw on a chunky jumper and you have a feminine look that's cosy and smart. Team your simple skirts with matching bomber jackets and blouson jackets.

For something a little sharper; create classic wide-legged trousers The Pattern Stash - Cordelia Trousers and matching waistcoats Jemima Waistcoat for a confident feminine style. Dress this look down with classic Fair Isle jumpers and a pair of brogues. For full-on feminine glamour go the whole hog and create a matching blazer with a velvet collar and pocket flaps, classic cuts never date.

Dapper gents: this will make superb three-piece suits, you can wear each piece separately and wear it with your jeans and a stylish shirt. Try combining your cosy flannel trousers with a  grey chambray shirt and a cosy cardigan, for a relaxed style.

Why not pair this elegant fabric with it's sister fabric: Black & White Sketchy Check.

Utilise the soft drape of this delightful wool-blend flannel and create smock-style tunics perfect for wearing with jeans or leggings. Merchant and Mills patterns and The Assembly Line patterns are excellent choices for simple classic styles perfect for fabrics of this type.

Great fabric, great price

This fabric washed well at 30 in the machine, no change visible at all. Lovely drape and handle. Was going to make a blouse but 3m enough for a dress, probably Style Arc’s Montana. Lovely dark colour the check isn’t defined so not sure what matching issues there might be yet!

Why choose wool fabric?

Benefits of sewing with Wool! 🐑

We love wonderful wool! Why? Because it looks beautiful, well yes but did you know wool has a series of superpowers that make it the most incredible natural fibre, suitable for more garment suggestions and sewing inspiration than possibly any other?

Wool has a unique naturally crimped 3D structure which attributes to some brilliant properties & makes it a great fabric to wear throughout all the seasons.

Naturally Breathable: This amazing 3D crimped structure promotes air circulation allowing air to pass through the fabric, allowing for circulation and ventilation for your skin to breathe, keeping you cool.

Shower Resistant: Sheep naturally produce a waxy substance called lanolin. As sheep live outdoors, this naturally occurring wax helps to protect sheep from the elements, naturally shedding water & keeping them dry. This same property is retained within the wool fibres when spun into yarn.

Moisture Absorbing: The moisture-retentive superpowers of wool! It’s hydrophilic core gives wool the ability to wick away moisture keeping you dry and comfortable – this possibly one of our favourite properties because you can stay fresh when wearing wool, from autumn right through to spring!
