Perfectly Imperfect Notice:
This cloth was saved from a West Yorkshire woollen manufacturer, where it would otherwise have been destroyed. Rescuing good cloth from waste is what Fabworks is for. This piece carries nipped creases along the selvedge. They sit at the very edge of the cloth and can usually be avoided altogether by keeping pattern pieces clear of the selvedge, although this does reduce the usable width. Allow a little extra length when buying. It is offered at a reduced price for this reason. We strongly advise ordering a sample, or a 0.5m Cut Length, to inspect the cloth in detail before committing to a project. View the other photographs to see the fabric closely and know exactly what you are buying.
Colour:
Woven with timeless combed yarns in the darkest midnight navy, a wool and polyester blend that produces a seriously stylish classic hue. Navy tones are perennial favourites, super smart and so versatile, perfect for those who find black too harsh.
Properties:
A close, flat matte weave. Wool blend fabrics of this quality are hard wearing and crease resistant, yet comfortably warm. Tailored pieces will benefit from a quality lining. Stable in hand and reassuringly drapey.
Garment Suggestions:
Perfect for everyday suits for both men and women, but not limited to suits alone. If suit making isn't your forte, put this superb fabric to use for less formal but equally smart outfits, such as shirt dresses, tunics, shift dresses and skirts.
Shirt dresses and trapeze shapes look stunning in it, and the wide legged Cordelia Trousers are ideally suited to classic cloth like this: the elegant drape achieved with the wide legs is so stylish. Benefits of sewing with Wool! 🐑
We love wonderful wool! Why? Because it looks beautiful, well yes but did you know wool has a series of superpowers that make it the most incredible natural fibre, suitable for more garment suggestions and sewing inspiration than possibly any other?
Wool has a unique naturally crimped 3D structure which attributes to some brilliant properties & makes it a great fabric to wear throughout all the seasons.
Naturally Breathable: This amazing 3D crimped structure promotes air circulation allowing air to pass through the fabric, allowing for circulation and ventilation for your skin to breathe, keeping you cool.
Shower Resistant: Sheep naturally produce a waxy substance called lanolin. As sheep live outdoors, this naturally occurring wax helps to protect sheep from the elements, naturally shedding water & keeping them dry. This same property is retained within the wool fibres when spun into yarn.
Moisture Absorbing: The moisture-retentive superpowers of wool! It’s hydrophilic core gives wool the ability to wick away moisture keeping you dry and comfortable – this possibly one of our favourite properties because you can stay fresh when wearing wool, from autumn right through to spring!
