Description
Overview:

This striking, cleverly engineered coating fabric combines drama, versatility and craftsmanship in one luxurious double-sided design. Dense and insulating yet beautifully malleable, it offers two distinct aesthetics within a single cloth, making it an inspired choice for statement outerwear with practical everyday appeal.

Specifications:

Weight: Heavy

GSM: 344

Composition: Wool & Acetate

Width: 158cm / 62.2inch

Pattern repeat: 4cm / 1.6inch

Colour:

Shades: This intelligently woven coat-weight fabric showcases a rich, nuanced palette designed for dual-sided use. The face presents a bold jumbo herringbone of Burnished Bronze chevrons set against a dramatic near-black contrast. On closer inspection, alternating double weft yarns of black and deep olive green add depth and complexity. The reverse reveals a more subdued, mottled olive and black melange, with a discreet shimmer of bronze subtly glinting from beneath the surface.

Design: A large-scale herringbone weave with a refined, contemporary edge. The structure allows both sides to shine independently, offering two distinct looks within one fabric.

Overall: Confident, versatile and quietly luxurious. This is a true dual-purpose fabric, glamorous enough for evening wear on one side, understated and wearable on the other. Perfect for reversible designs that adapt effortlessly from day to night.

Properties:

Texture: The bronze herringbone face is lightly brushed with a soft, refined surface, while the reverse offers a classic cosy wool texture with a more muted visual finish.

Handle: Stable in both width and length with useful natural bias ease. Substantial and reassuring in the hand, yet pliable enough for thoughtful tailoring and construction.

Drape: Soft and malleable with a satisfyingly weighty drape, ideal for outerwear that holds its shape while moving comfortably with the body.

Garment Suggestions:

Types: Exceptionally suited to reversible coats, jackets, shackets and coatigans. Turn-back cuffs, contrast facings, oversized collars and open-front designs allow both sides of the fabric to be showcased beautifully. Works particularly well with unlined or lightly structured outerwear patterns, reversible coat designs, relaxed wrap coats, modern shackets and statement winter layers.

Patterns: We love this fabric for patterns such as the Cordelia Trousers, the Ilford Jacket, the Amelia Skirt, the Coat, and other classic tailoring designs you want to add a twist to.

Other Uses:

Accessories: An excellent choice for structured bags, wraps, oversized scarves or matching accessories such as caps, hats, headbands, scrunchies and handbags.

Furnishings: Ideal for bold upholstery pieces, footstools, bench covers or feature cushions where the reversible quality can be highlighted through folds, piping or panelling.

Upcycling: Offcuts are perfect for stand-out cuffs, collars, pocket details, facings, appliqué panels or smaller accessories that take advantage of the contrasting sides and rich surface texture.

Avoca Deadstock Fabrics

Fabworks x Avoca

Fabworks’ association with Avoca began in 2011, when Fabworks Mill Shop was only a fraction of what it is today, and way before Fabworks Online existed. We were approached by Avoca with an offer to buy their surplus fabric from the previous seasons' collections. What an opportunity! A deal was struck, and what arrived at our warehouse a few weeks later was the most amazing selection of Irish-made pure wool fabrics, plus all the accessorising elements within the Avoca ladieswear collection (elaborate trimmings, gorgeous embroidered silks, lightweight satins, Liberty jerseys) and the cherry on top of the cake – Irish-made Donegal Tweed!

The working relationship between Fabworks and Avoca blossomed over the next few years and allowed Fabworks to develop its focus on high end ladies’ dressmaking fabrics and away from the lower end of the textiles market.

Four years and several thousand metres of fabric later, Fabworks took a bigger step than ever before, and collaborated with Avoca to commission its own range of Irish-made pure wool fabrics which marked the launch of Fabworks Online, November 16th 2015. This was a defining moment for Fabworks, being the very first collection of fabrics that we commissioned ourselves. With a range of herringbones in iconic Avoca colour-rich palettes, this was Fabworks’ first taste of proper manufacturing in the 21st century.
