Overview:

This classic blend of shirt-weight linen and cotton features an airy quality that makes it perfect for warm weather. The soft blue-green hue of Eau de Nil meaning "waters of the Nile", is from the lifestream of Egyptian culture. This fabric provides the best qualities of both linen and cotton: it is soft, breathable, and stable which will lend itself well to summer garments or soft home furnishing projects.

Specifications:

Manufactured in Europe

Weight: Light

GSM: 112

Composition: 55% Linen & 45% Cotton

Width: 142cm / 55.9inch

Colour:

Shade: Boasting a solid hue of soft aqua green with blue undertones, akin to the fresh clear waters of a rushing river.

Design: A solid overall tone featuring the superfine horizontal linen slubs creates delicate detail and a lightly hazy striated appearance.

Appearance: This fabric offers a classic natural fibre appearance featuring linen slubs with a bright and light quality in a refreshing soft blue-green hue.

Properties:

Texture: The fine, high thread count creates a very soft touch and a smooth feel, although the characteristic linen slubs are visible they make little impact on the texture.

Handle: This superfine classic shirt-weight fabric has a stable hand with light and airy quality.

Drape: A reassuring flowy drape quality which will lend itself well to gathered details. It is slightly translucent when held up to the light. We recommend lining your garment.

Garment Suggestions:

Patterns: Consider patterns like the Arya Pleat Dress, Triple Tuck Smock, Folia Frock or Megan Nielsen Protea Capsule Wardrobe.

Other Uses:

Accessories: Make matching pieces like headscarves, tote bags or scrunchies.

Furnishings: Light and airy window drapes or cushions with embellishments.

Upcycling: Use your offcuts for lavender bags, table runners and napkins.

About Linen

Linen not only offers ‘cool chic’ looks, but also comfort, durability, and sustainability, and is an exceptional fabric to wear throughout spring and summer months. It comes in weights from super light and floaty, through ‘shirt crisp’ to softly draping skirt and trouser weight, which can even find a place in the seasonal transition wardrobe. Derived from the flax plant, linen is celebrated for its breathability and moisture-wicking properties, ensuring you stay cool and dry during warmer months. Its natural fibres allow for excellent air circulation, making garments feel light and comfortable even on the hottest days.

One of the standout features of linen is its durability. The fabric's inherent strength resists abrasion and pilling, ensuring that your garments maintain their beauty over time. Additionally, linen will soften with each wash, enhancing comfort without compromising its robust nature. This makes linen ideal for creating timeless wardrobe staples, such as trousers, tunics, shirts and dresses.

Linen's hypoallergenic and antibacterial qualities make it suitable for individuals with sensitive skin or allergies. Its natural resistance to bacteria ensures garments remain fresh.

From an environmental perspective, linen is a sustainable choice. Flax cultivation requires minimal water and pesticides, and every part of the plant is utilised, resulting in zero waste. Moreover, linen is biodegradable and recyclable, minimising environmental impact.

For those seeking high-quality linen fabrics, Fabworks offers a curated collection suitable for various projects. While 100% linens are favoured for their crispness and that classic ‘linen look’, linen-cotton blends have the benefits of both fibres, offering the durability
of linen teamed with the softness and gentle handle & drape of cotton. Both these compositions are perfect for creating comfortable and stylish summer garments.

Incorporating linen into your spring and summer sewing projects not only enhances your wardrobe with breathable and durable pieces but also supports sustainable practices, making it a choice that benefits both you and the environment.
