Colour:

Darkness and light, the differing tones of the oceans are captured in this first-rate Lambswool Donegal Tweed Herringbone, deep sea-inspired navy blue blue-hued yarns are woven through the weft, creating a contrast and showcasing the chevrons of the seafoam white yarns of the warp.

The subtlest Donegal flecks of cornflower sapphire, smoky topaz brown and moss agate green add a final flourish to this exquisite fabric like the sea glass tears of mermaids.

Properties:

This range of the finest Irish woven lambswool herringbones has the most tactile quality! You will delight in the softness and cosy  hand of these fabrics.

Mermaid Tears may be soft, but has all the admirable qualities of hard-wearing Irish tweed we would expect. Wool is naturally temperature-regulating, showerproof and soil-resistant.

These medium-weight, Donegal Tweeds are stable width and lengthwise and have a soft bias ease, adding to the reassuring, and malleable drape quality. Closely woven and lightly milled, so slightly less prone to fraying.

A truly first-class fabric to work with! These impeccable fabrics will service you well for years to come a light brushing and airing in the fresh outdoors is all they should need.

Garment Suggestions:

Donegal Tweeds are always a firm favourite for country outerwear and work beautifully for jackets, overcoats and pea coats. Alternatively, go for something a little less formal and try  poncho, wraps and cape styles.

A matching waistcoat and skirt will become priceless additions to your wardrobe; great garments to throw on with your favourite roll-neck top or Liberty shirt, chunky tights and winter boots. How about completing the ensemble with your own bespoke, matching accessories? Hats, caps, ear warmers, scarves and bags to give just a few ideas.

Other Uses:

Interior projects around the home will be an indulgent touch and stunning additional pops of colour where needed. Use for comforting throws and cushions, an eye-catching, vivid and modern twist to a traditional combination.

Fabworks x Avoca

Fabworks’ association with Avoca began in 2011, when Fabworks Mill Shop was only a fraction of what it is today, and way before Fabworks Online existed. We were approached by Avoca with an offer to buy their surplus fabric from the previous seasons' collections. What an opportunity! A deal was struck, and what arrived at our warehouse a few weeks later was the most amazing selection of Irish-made pure wool fabrics, plus all the accessorising elements within the Avoca ladieswear collection (elaborate trimmings, gorgeous embroidered silks, lightweight satins, Liberty jerseys) and the cherry on top of the cake – Irish-made Donegal Tweed!

The working relationship between Fabworks and Avoca blossomed over the next few years and allowed Fabworks to develop its focus on high end ladies’ dressmaking fabrics and away from the lower end of the textiles market.

Four years and several thousand metres of fabric later, Fabworks took a bigger step than ever before, and collaborated with Avoca to commission its own range of Irish-made pure wool fabrics which marked the launch of Fabworks Online, November 16th 2015. This was a defining moment for Fabworks, being the very first collection of fabrics that we commissioned ourselves. With a range of herringbones in iconic Avoca colour-rich palettes, this was Fabworks’ first taste of proper manufacturing in the 21st century.
