Shades: This delightful wool tweed plaid draws inspiration from the Seashore and features a sun-warmed, olive-gold green with a seaweed hue, redolent of graceful seaweed stirred by the gentle breeze. An overcheck of sea coal black flanks and defines the borders between the accent hues, where a melange yarn of soft, mineral blue with hints of grey and aqua evokes the cool water of rock pools mirroring the sky.

This thoughtful combination brings a fresh, coastal ecosystem vibe that’s both tranquil and calm, where sand meets seaweed, and sunlight dances on shallow tidal pools. Heathered grey runs throughout the palette, adding a characteristic, almost weather-worn authenticity to the tweed. An overcheck of Bloodline red creates a visual focus redolent of the flower-like tendrils of red sea anemones amongst the green seaweed and grey rocks.

Design: Plaid - The word "plaid" originally comes from the Scottish Gaelic word "plaide", meaning blanket or woollen cloth, and now is the term for a generic checked woollen fabric. Kelpline Tweed is a pattern of crisscrossed horizontal and vertical bands in multiple colours. Similar checked woollen patterns were used by Celtic tribes throughout the British Isles and Europe.

Properties:

Texture: This all wool Yorkshire Heritage Tweed features a classic wool outerwear texture that balances ruggedness with comfort. Typically fibrous, yet cosy and protective against the elements, naturally insulating, it traps air between fibres, providing warmth without being stifling. Breathable and resistant to wind, though not fully windproof.

Handle: The fabric holds its structure well and is stable along both the width and length, making it ideal for tailored garments like blazers or sport coats, and so much more. These traditional wool tweeds are perfect for soft furnishing and craft purposes.

Drape: Kelpline Tweed will drape reassuringly when used at length. It will form neat pleats with structure and softer flares and flounces where required. A natural bias ease provides the opportunity for manipulating the fabric with steam for tailoring purposes.
