Introduction:

This quality fabric is just as its name suggests, a true classic. This wool serge is finely woven (with a double warp) from a high thread count of strong and lustrous darkest navy, worsted yarns that are twisted to produce extra density.

Properties:

The close twill woven construction thus produces a medium/heavy fabric that is stable, has a heavy drape quality, is less prone to fray, has a subtle sheen and is naturally water and soil-resistant. Wool serge fabrics have been used for centuries to make military uniforms and other smart and hard-wearing apparel.

Garment Suggestions:

Our Classic Navy is perfect for creating key pieces for your workwear wardrobe, styles to make are; pencil skirts, slim-fit trousers, waistcoats, matching blazers, shift and pinafore dresses, fit and flare dresses. For something a little more advanced and creative why not create equestrian-inspired riding style coats with fitted, princess-seamed bodices and full skirts utilising the heavy and wonderful drape quality.

Make our Amelia Skirt - The Pattern Stash using Classic Navy, perfect for the sculpted style and polished finish of the skirt!

Historical costume makers and reenactors; this will make superb replica uniforms and so much more.

Superb quality

Heavy and drapes beautifully. Perfect for the 18C British navy uniform I’m constructing.
