Nom de Plume Check is a super stylish, fine worsted wool and elastane suiting. This fine suiting features a superb all over checked design which gives a dandy style perfect for sharp dressed men and women's apparel.
The pleasing palette of blue tones which feature darkest navy as the background provides the perfect stage for the fine yarns of white, sky blue and royal blue, which reminded us of old school writers tools; finely lined journals and exquisite fountain pens.
Nom de Plume Check boasts a soft cool feel, lightweight drapey handle that's stable across the width and length and has slight stretch down the length due to the added elastane, making it ideal for slim fit trousers and other fitted attire.
You'd be a fool to consign this stunning fabric to the 'suiting only' projects pile. This will make both comfortable, warm (but not too warm) garments which can be dressed up or dressed down. A lightweight classic navy themed wool perfect for gentlemen's work attire, with crease resistant properties due to its fine weave and wool composition!
Put this superb fabric to use for less formal, but equally smart outfits, such as shirt dresses, tunics, pinafore dresses and skirts too. The Merchant & Mills 'Shirt Dress' and 'Trapeze Dress' will look stunning in this fabric. There's also a simple drawstring-waist trouser pattern too (The 101 Trouser), which will work perfectly with this lightweight wool.
Other suggested uses are simple unlined coats. There are many other patterns available suitable to use with this fine worsted wool, think clean simple lines and unfussy cuts!
Benefits of sewing with Wool! 🐑
We love wonderful wool! Why? Because it looks beautiful, well yes but did you know wool has a series of superpowers that make it the most incredible natural fibre, suitable for more garment suggestions and sewing inspiration than possibly any other?
Wool has a unique naturally crimped 3D structure which attributes to some brilliant properties & makes it a great fabric to wear throughout all the seasons.
Naturally Breathable: This amazing 3D crimped structure promotes air circulation allowing air to pass through the fabric, allowing for circulation and ventilation for your skin to breathe, keeping you cool.
Shower Resistant: Sheep naturally produce a waxy substance called lanolin. As sheep live outdoors, this naturally occurring wax helps to protect sheep from the elements, naturally shedding water & keeping them dry. This same property is retained within the wool fibres when spun into yarn.
Moisture Absorbing: The moisture-retentive superpowers of wool! It’s hydrophilic core gives wool the ability to wick away moisture keeping you dry and comfortable – this possibly one of our favourite properties because you can stay fresh when wearing wool, from autumn right through to spring!
