Beautiful but hard work!

This is a gorgeous deep navy colour, ideal for my every day autumn raincoat. It is very tightly woven, and does not drape particularly well. I made a calf length coat (TAL hoodie parka) and it does hang nicely, but that's mostly down to the weight of the fabric. The sleeves don't drape, and look a bit crinkly at the elbows. It has good colour saturation, with almost a peachskin finish, but this also means it marks easily. I have no idea what the waterproofing is (whether it's treated or just incredibly tight weave or both) but so far has proven to stand up to Yorkshire downpours.

However, there is a big caveat I make before recommending this fabric. This material is an absolute nightmare to hand-sew. It's so tightly woven I had to really fight to get each hand-stitch when finishing the hem. Setting in the sleeves brought me to tears. It took me an entire day to sew 12 buttons on. I tried every size and shape needle I have, and even bought new extra sharp ones, to no improvement. I would only plan to use this fabric for something that you can completely machine sew, that doesn't have too many fine details, and/ or have fingers of steel. (NB, even with silicon finger guards and a thimble I have many stab wounds from hand sewing with this, and my knuckles ache.)
