Introduction:

Lava Rock Grey - Italian Doeskin Wool Coating is dark charcoal melange, Italian doeskin fabric may have a tough namesake but it's only the colour we are referencing. This coating weight fabric is super soft, cosy and lightly brushed making it a classic choice with a luxurious hand for creating timeless outerwear for the A/W seasons.

Colour:

Lava Rock Grey boasts dark grey hues with a light sprinkling of paler grey fibres producing an almost textural look like its namesake. This luxuriously soft, quality woollen fabric is perfect for those who can't wear black because it's harsh for their skin tones.

Properties:

Lava Rock Grey is a closely woven, lightly felted then brushed medium-weight all wool fabric that is hard-wearing, but not too heavy or un-wielding. This fabric is stable width and lengthwise yet is malleable, soft and cosy with a reassuring drape quality too. This is so soft you would think it has a touch of cashmere in it.

Garment Suggestions:

Use Lava Rock Grey to make classic coats and capes, ladies' and men's Pea coats, blazers, The Avid Seamstress' The Blazer and '80s  '90s style over-sized overcoats. There are a plethora of patterns aimed at confident beginners and intermediate sewists for you to choose from.

The Avid Seamstress' The Coat and Sew Different's Cocoon Jacket would be perfect made up in Lava Rock Grey If you want a quick make take advantage of the low fray qualities of doeskin, felted type wools and create waterfall front coatigans with simple belt closures, these are really easy to make and are excellent for layering

Other Uses:

Create quality accessories to accompany your coats, capes and blazers; Hats, caps and scarves, neck warmers are ideal projects perfect for teaming with checked or plaids for extra interest.

Why choose wool fabric?

Benefits of sewing with Wool! 🐑

We love wonderful wool! Why? Because it looks beautiful, well yes but did you know wool has a series of superpowers that make it the most incredible natural fibre, suitable for more garment suggestions and sewing inspiration than possibly any other?

Wool has a unique naturally crimped 3D structure which attributes to some brilliant properties & makes it a great fabric to wear throughout all the seasons.

Naturally Breathable: This amazing 3D crimped structure promotes air circulation allowing air to pass through the fabric, allowing for circulation and ventilation for your skin to breathe, keeping you cool.

Shower Resistant: Sheep naturally produce a waxy substance called lanolin. As sheep live outdoors, this naturally occurring wax helps to protect sheep from the elements, naturally shedding water & keeping them dry. This same property is retained within the wool fibres when spun into yarn.

Moisture Absorbing: The moisture-retentive superpowers of wool! It’s hydrophilic core gives wool the ability to wick away moisture keeping you dry and comfortable – this possibly one of our favourite properties because you can stay fresh when wearing wool, from autumn right through to spring!
