Grey Meandering Maze - Virgin Wool Flannel is suitable for a wide range of seriously smart or smart/casual clothing depending on the patterns and styles you choose to create and has a designer pedigree.

Originally made by Italian craftsmen for the same designer as our SOS Collection, it is equally stunning and perfect for cross-seasonal wear throughout the year - after all, wool is naturally temperature-regulating!

Grey Meandering Maze is a versatile multi-tonal dark grey hues that are predominant throughout this first-rate Italian woven 100% wool flannel, with a mesmerising diamond weave design that emulates the Greek key or meander design.

The combination of granite grey and black luxuriously soft, lustrous yarns produces the illusion of rows of tiny maze motifs. Grey Meandering Maze has a super soft, brushed (lightly felted) feel with a stable handle and delicious drape that will keep you cosy and comfortable while helping you to maintain an air of relaxed sophistication.

Garment Suggestions:

This classic woollen fabric shouldn’t only be consigned to a gentlemen’s wardrobe, it has a wonderful soft drape quality that is also perfect for ladies’ clothing and shows off the gorgeous sheen - a true sign of quality yarns! It's a great all-rounder to put to use for a host of sewing projects.

Tailors, rejoice: this is a tailoring classic - perfect for jackets, trousers and waistcoats.  Update this classic and create sports luxe styles such as bomber and Harrington style jackets with gleaming zips and stud details, cosy utility-style over-shirts or blouson jackets with a retro vibe.

For feminine styles Grey Meandering Maze is ideal for most skirt styles, pinafore dresses, shift dresses and dresses which require a good drape quality. Merchant and Mills' The Trapeze & The Rugby are superb dress patterns that will look and feel fabulous made in this divine wool flannel (excellent for layering with roll-neck sweaters). This fabric is also perfect for hats, caps, bags and crafts, etc.

Team your Grey Meandering Maze makes with one of our SOS Collection fabrics, they're perfect for lining your jackets and skirts as well as for statement waistcoat backs.

Fabric Fabric
Quality wool

I got this fabric for a pair of trousers. I ordered sample before purchasing the fabric so I know this is what I wanted. The colour is close but not as dark as the photos on my screen. The wool is soft but has structure and good for trousers. It's densely woven and has a slight (very slight) sheen if unwashed. I prefer heavier weight fabric for trousers and happy with the weight of this wool, it's thicker than worsted. if you want to make winter jacket it could be light, but suits or trousers should be perfect. All in all a good purchase for the intended job. Many thanks.

Why choose wool fabric?

Benefits of sewing with Wool! 🐑

We love wonderful wool! Why? Because it looks beautiful, well yes but did you know wool has a series of superpowers that make it the most incredible natural fibre, suitable for more garment suggestions and sewing inspiration than possibly any other?

Wool has a unique naturally crimped 3D structure which attributes to some brilliant properties & makes it a great fabric to wear throughout all the seasons.

Naturally Breathable: This amazing 3D crimped structure promotes air circulation allowing air to pass through the fabric, allowing for circulation and ventilation for your skin to breathe, keeping you cool.

Shower Resistant: Sheep naturally produce a waxy substance called lanolin. As sheep live outdoors, this naturally occurring wax helps to protect sheep from the elements, naturally shedding water & keeping them dry. This same property is retained within the wool fibres when spun into yarn.

Moisture Absorbing: The moisture-retentive superpowers of wool! It’s hydrophilic core gives wool the ability to wick away moisture keeping you dry and comfortable – this possibly one of our favourite properties because you can stay fresh when wearing wool, from autumn right through to spring!
