Introduction:

Classic Navy - Cashmere Blend Melton is as its name suggests a first-rate darkest navy virgin wool, cashmere and nylon fabric.

 Colour:

Classic Navy is a seriously stylish alternative to black and just like its darker counterpart is extremely versatile. The perfect tone to dress up or dress down. You won't regret making garments and accessories from this classic.

Properties:

Classic Navy this medium-weight blended fibre Melton is super soft with thanks to a little added cashmere, it's stable and densely felted providing the perfect protective outer layer.

A reassuringly weighty drape quality makes this fabric even more versatile, ideal for creating softly draped silhouettes. The perfect classic navy outerwear fabric for creating key pieces to add chic reliable style to your wardrobe or home. This cosy fabric has lightly brushed surfaces, which is a characteristic of Melton fabrics due to their surfaces being felted and milled.

Garment Suggestions:

Excellent for classic longline winter coats such as The Coat by The Avid Seamstress, capes, trench military style coats and jackets. If you don't fancy a jacket, go for unlined waterfall front coats and wraps. Classic Navy will look stunning with a smart office wear wardrobe and will also carry you through to the weekend to dress down with your jeans and winter boots too! Create your own classic coat with this deliciously soft and cosy fabric.

Other uses:

Create matching accessories, hats, caps, bags, and waistcoats.  Use this hardwearing all wool to create lightly upholstered pieces for your home and team with country tweed for a Gentleman's club style.

Gorgeous fabric

I purchased a few metres of this in the autumn. Finally got round to using it to make myself a coat. The colour is perfect, the blue is detectable in daylight but at night looks almost black but without the harshness.

It drapes nicely, very forgiving to work with and use a lovely slight sheen to it. Smooth and soft to the touch.

Thanks for supplying another winning fabric fabworks!

Melton

Very dark navy, almost black, this will make a lovely warm jacket. The cashmere makes it slightly softer, but doesn’t see. very different from ordinary melton. Good value as always from Fabworks, I’m very pleased with it.

Why choose wool fabric?

Benefits of sewing with Wool! 🐑

We love wonderful wool! Why? Because it looks beautiful, well yes but did you know wool has a series of superpowers that make it the most incredible natural fibre, suitable for more garment suggestions and sewing inspiration than possibly any other?

Wool has a unique naturally crimped 3D structure which attributes to some brilliant properties & makes it a great fabric to wear throughout all the seasons.

Naturally Breathable: This amazing 3D crimped structure promotes air circulation allowing air to pass through the fabric, allowing for circulation and ventilation for your skin to breathe, keeping you cool.

Shower Resistant: Sheep naturally produce a waxy substance called lanolin. As sheep live outdoors, this naturally occurring wax helps to protect sheep from the elements, naturally shedding water & keeping them dry. This same property is retained within the wool fibres when spun into yarn.

Moisture Absorbing: The moisture-retentive superpowers of wool! It’s hydrophilic core gives wool the ability to wick away moisture keeping you dry and comfortable – this possibly one of our favourite properties because you can stay fresh when wearing wool, from autumn right through to spring!
