This collection of medium-weight tartan twill fabrics, woven in Yorkshire from pure wool, represents the very best in British textile craftsmanship. Shades: This superb Autumn Watch has a design based on the classic and iconic Black Watch. Our Yorkshire weavers have taken the basic 'sett' of this tartan and replaced the traditional spruce green with rich autumnal burnt orange. The deep loch blue is replaced by an earthy brown hue with olive undertones, and the black is replaced with a dark as midnight navy blue. This rich and warming palette has the cosy glow of burning embers and simmering spiced pumpkin soup, the perfect Autumn Tartan!

Design: A closely woven twill fabric created using multicoloured warp and weft yarns to form the tartan sett. The pattern remains consistent with the original Black Watch, but the autumnal tones lend it a more bold and warming appeal.

Overall: This stunning Autumn Watch Tartan boasts a strong and grounded style, organic, natural and warmly mellow like its seasonal namesake. This Tartan has warmth, enthusiasm, and a bit of retro charm.

Properties:

Texture: Autumn Watch Tartan is a closely woven, all-wool worsted fabric with a versatile medium/light weight. It offers the look and character of traditional wool while being softer and more comfortable against the skin.

Handle: A stable, closely woven fabric that is hard-wearing and made to last. Perfect for structured pleats and tailored details.

Drape: In addition to holding crisp details, this fabric drapes with a reassuring weight, ideal for bias cuts, flares, and flounced designs. The tartan sett can be cleverly used to create striking focal points in bespoke garments and creative pieces.

Garment Suggestions:

Types: It’s the perfect fabric for a plethora of sewing room projects, and it will always do as it’s told. Wool of this kind is easy to sew and will stand the test of time.

Create a wide range of apparel from classic separates, trousers, skirts, pinafore dresses, tunics, blazers, to stand-alone pieces from ballgowns to everyday utilitarian styles with a heritage twist. Naturally, it is also perfect for traditional Scottish attire such as kilts, scarves, and ties.

All lovers of textiles will find countless uses for this first-rate Yorkshire tartan, carrying you through autumn and winter, and perfectly into spring.

Patterns: Consider patterns such as the Cordelia Trousers, the Rambler Pants, the Lynsey Dungarees, the Osborn Dungarees for trousers and dungarees or the Amelia Skirt, the Arya Pleat Dress, The Blazer or the Scoop Pinafore.

Other Uses:

Accessories: Complete your outfits with matching accessories, think ties, scrunchies and matching handbags. We love The Frame Bag pattern!

Furnishings: Perfect for a tweedy highlands scheme, create cosy soft furnishings such as cushion covers, boxed-edge seat pads, blind trims and draught excluders or use to upholster and upcycle furniture.

Upcycling: Ideal for scrap-friendly projects like appliqué, patchwork or textile art. Offcuts can be transformed into contrast panels for garments, or used to create characterful soft furnishings, think fabric trays, coasters, or classic pieces like Scottie dogs, teddy bears and dachshund draught excluders.
