Perfectly Imperfect Notice:
This cloth was saved from a West Yorkshire woollen manufacturer, where it would otherwise have been destroyed. Rescuing good cloth from waste is what Fabworks is for. This piece carries holes within the fabric. They are straightforward to work around with good pattern placement, but you should allow additional length when buying so that you can cut clear of them. It is offered at a reduced price for this reason. We strongly advise ordering a sample, or a 0.5m Cut Length, to inspect the cloth in detail before committing to a project. View the other photographs to see the fabric closely and know exactly what you are buying.
Colour:
Royal Blue is one of the classic shades of blue, favoured by royalty and aristocracy, military organisations and steam locomotives alike. If you need a fabric to send you blazing on your way, or simply with a purposeful spring in your step, this is the one. This bright jewel toned blue is a favourite for school uniforms.
Did you know the blazer takes its name from the red jackets worn by Cambridge's Lady Margaret Boat Club, referred to as red Guernseys or Blazers because they were, and still are, bright or blazing red?
Properties:
Royal Blue is woven from a blended yarn of predominantly wool composition with added polyester for practicality and durability. Closely packed twill woven yarns produce a hard wearing, lightly textured fabric.
This versatile fabric is super stable, strong and sturdy, and it will drape reassuringly. The stable hard wearing hand makes Royal Blue ideal for semi structured pieces. This is, after all, the same hand as a medium soft weight denim, making it ideal for a multitude of fabulously practical and super smart things. We may have called it Blazer Twill, but you can make so much more from this classic blue wool blend twill.
Garment Suggestions:
Styles to try: blazers, coats and jackets. Or give this sturdy fabric a workwear vibe and create denim jackets and worker style jackets such as Wendy Ward's Dylan Jacket and Closet Core's Sienna Maker Jacket. Create hard wearing yet stylish boilersuits such as Fibre Mood Leah, and add contrasting white topstitching for a Jasper Conran style.
Emphasise the preppy style of this classic and make neat pinafore dresses, simple shift dresses and pencil skirts. Merchant and Mills and The Makers Atelier are excellent patterns with clean lines, best suited to semi structured fabrics like our Royal Blue.
