Introduction:

Round The Block Sketch - Wool Flannel is suitable for a wide range of smart or casual clothing depending on the patterns and styles you choose to create and has a designer pedigree. Originally made for the same designer as our SOS Collection, it is equally stunning and perfect for cross-seasonal wear.

Colour:

Round The Block Sketch is woven with a versatile, marled mid-grey yarn at its base and accentuated by a subtle rectangular over-check which produces the look of uniformly stacked blocks. You certainly won't look as if you've "been around the block a few times" when wearing cleverly constructed garments made from this designer fabric.

Properties:

At first touch, you will experience a reassuringly soft medium/lightweight wool that will keep you warm but won't feel heavy or itchy at all. Round The Block Sketch boasts a reassuringly cosy drape and a stable medium-weight handle. Garments made in this handsome fabric will leave you with self-assured confidence that needs no shouting about.

Garment Suggestion:

Classic wool flannel with a twist, it's perfect for tailoring purposes such as waistcoats, jackets, trousers, neat pencil skirts, etc... Add a feminine peplum for seriously feminine workwear. Make the most of this handsome fabric's drape quality and add a shapely ruffle detail or fan pleat to the hem of a fitted wiggle skirt - classic tailoring with a retro '40s or '50s twist!

Create a simple sheath dress or pinafore dress and wear it with a classic white shirt or roll-neck top. Tailoring not your thing? Have a go at fabric manipulation and fashion a Viv Westwood style tuck and drape dress or skirt, for truly quirky British style.

Grey flannel never dates and is easily translated into high fashion - try jumpsuits/boiler suits, coatigans, bomber jackets, culottes and others. The possibilities are endless for this versatile fabric, it's one that'll soon become a perennial favourite.

My review is based on the sample. This fabric is a lovely quality, but I would describe it as lightweight rather than medium. Much too lightweight and translucent for the trousers I am planning. I'm glad I bought a sample first, - I find the Properties and Garment suggestion descriptions a bit too generic (Sorry Fabworks!)

Shacket or trousers or dress

I wanted a flannel like fabric to sew a winter shirt. When it arrived it might be better as a shacket. It has washed well did not shrink or felt, but it has fluffed up ( not pilled just bouncy). I haven’t sewn this yet I may yet make a Montana dress. Stashed to stroke!

Why choose wool fabric?

Benefits of sewing with Wool! 🐑

We love wonderful wool! Why? Because it looks beautiful, well yes but did you know wool has a series of superpowers that make it the most incredible natural fibre, suitable for more garment suggestions and sewing inspiration than possibly any other?

Wool has a unique naturally crimped 3D structure which attributes to some brilliant properties & makes it a great fabric to wear throughout all the seasons.

Naturally Breathable: This amazing 3D crimped structure promotes air circulation allowing air to pass through the fabric, allowing for circulation and ventilation for your skin to breathe, keeping you cool.

Shower Resistant: Sheep naturally produce a waxy substance called lanolin. As sheep live outdoors, this naturally occurring wax helps to protect sheep from the elements, naturally shedding water & keeping them dry. This same property is retained within the wool fibres when spun into yarn.

Moisture Absorbing: The moisture-retentive superpowers of wool! It’s hydrophilic core gives wool the ability to wick away moisture keeping you dry and comfortable – this possibly one of our favourite properties because you can stay fresh when wearing wool, from autumn right through to spring!
