This quality cotton, double twill was woven using the finest silken cotton yarns of alternating black and dark navy through the warp and weft. This intricate arrangement has produced an impeccable medium-weight fabric with navy on the face side and black on the reverse.
Properties:
Black Backed Navy boasts a close superfine twill weave with a double warp construction, the superfine diagonals of the twill weave produce a matte finish that boasts a soft smooth feel, with excellent stability- width and lengthwise. A soft and reassuring, quality drape allows for elegant tailoring and the combination of structure and drape in one garment.
Garment Suggestions:
Classic separates- Trench coats, blazers, pencil skirts and slim-leg trousers are the ideal candidates for this fabric, but don't be restricted and think you can only make trousers; make skirts, jackets and waistcoats from Black Backed Navy too. This will make feminine apparel with a vintage style, wiggle dresses and skirts with ruffled peplums and fishtail fan pleats, plus shirt dresses, tunics, pinafore dresses and the most elegant and wearable fit and flare or wrap dresses you will return to, year after year.
Wrap bodice dresses with gently flared skirts are perfect for wearing across the seasons. If trousers are more your style, this flawless fabric is perfect for classic narrow-leg - cigarette styles with grown-on waistbands/facings.
If navy blue-black is too plain for you, add a designer detail like embroidered applique or topstitch in brightly coloured thread, add matching bright buttons and wear with a bold-coloured shirt.
Medium-weight cotton fabrics make up fabulously in utility styles (particularly in dark or neutral tones) and are super useful and never date.
