Introduction:

This shirt-weight luxe cotton fabric was originally created for a top British designer renowned for his iconic men's and ladies' wear designs. Read on for more ideas, info and inspo on how to use this designer deadstock fabric to create your own bespoke makes.

Colour:

Artists Pastels is woven in the silkiest fine cotton yarns with a colour palette fit for an artist. The 99cm (panel) pattern repeat incorporates a block of the darkest navy like the midnight sky viewed from a deep dark forest. The grounding midnight navy is followed by a swathe of richly hued horizontal painterly stripes of shimmering teal,  soft red coral, powdered copper, golden ochre and peacock blue, collectively boasting a soft and silky appearance like the finest artist pastels or a silken make-up palette with colour-infused intensity.

Properties:

The finest silky cotton yarns of darkest navy set the grounding warp for this artistic creation and are then woven through the weft with the rich palette of artistic painterly stripes. A superfine (sateen-like) micro twill produces the softest hand you just want to arrange this fabric into artist swathes, flounces and drapes.

Artists Pastels is stable width and lengthwise and is lightweight without being translucent. This is luxe shirt-weight fabric with a designer pedigree after all. It will of course create all the sharp details of a classic shirt, collar, cuffs, etc with a little light interfacing, but imagine those silken swathes of colour, gathered, pleated and tucked to make statement pieces!

Garment Suggestions:

Use the striped panels cleverly and create an impact by thinking of the direction of the stripes. Choose patterns with panelled details The Sew Different Tuk Tuk Wrap Dress and Mahal Dress Patterns will look superb with the coloured pastel stripes down the centre front.
