Geometric Flags Blister Ponte

This knitted double jersey dressmaking fabric has all the qualities that you need for a great make - colour, stretch, durability, stable, soft drape, versatility, ease of make, (oh..and price!). George, Fabworks Online boss, was a little hesitant in agreeing to make this our February FoTM as it's not a cheap fabric to produce/stock, and you can see why. Upon closer examination, the quality is fab, with the blister-like effect is really quite detailed and gives the fabric its own character, as if to say "No, I most definitely am not boring and I am also very multipurpose". As well as the collection of colours available, there are other designs in this same fabric, as well as a host of recommended (and tested!) patterns chosen by the ever efficient Fabworks Online team. When To Wear:The striking colour combinations and wonderful cosy texture of this excellent knitted stretchy wonder make it perfect for creating colourful garments you can wear with your jeans and leggings, or dress it up with opaque tights and black heeled boots. Take your pick from these three on-trend and contrasting colours, each featuring a grounding black tone for you to dress up or dress down. |

Why To Wear:Ponte fabrics are an excellent place to start when sewing knit and stretch fabrics. Their double jersey construction makes them stable, not too stretchy and suitable for a multitude of practical garments that you don’t need an overlocker to sew them either. You can make everything from super smart dresses and skirts to sporty and casual sweatshirts, cardigans and loungepants. They'll also insulate somewhat and will hide possible unwanted lumps & bumps. |

How To Wear:There are so many great patterns suitable for ponte fabrics, but we're really loving A Beginners Guide to Sewing with Knitted Fabrics by Wendy Ward. There’s a brilliant pattern for a versatile cardigan called the Kinder Cardigan that will look super smart made up using Geometric Flags. As well as the patterns the book also gives plenty of helpful, hints, tips as well as the easy to make patterns. Tilly and The Buttons' book - STRETCH! is another that we love (both books are tried and tested by Fabworks staff). This one also has plenty of super patterns you can use to make up Geometric Flags in. The Frankie T-Shirt is an excellent baseball styled, raglan, long or short sleeved top that will easily translate into more of a sweatshirt style when fashioned in our blister ponte. Use contrasting colours on the sleeves, neck band and body to great effect (see below for further examples). |

Show Your Wares:
Instagram users and sewing blog followers may be familiar with Sew Different patterns and the recent Geo Dress in particular. Hila of @saturdaynightstitch created a fantastic version of the Geo Dress using the blister pontes from this collection. The look is colourful, versatile and completely unique. We think it’s fabulous; Read Laura’s helpful hints on sizing and sewing.
New sewists: For a super easy first time make try the Tilly and The Buttons Coco Top or dress for a retro '60s style. An easy make that suits all ages. Oh, and while you’re there you’d be silly not to have a go at the Bibi Skirt - a simple panelled, elasticated waist, pencil skirt that will look amazing in the contrasting colours of Geometric Flags - Blister Ponte!
