Chapter 3: Wednesday 10th September 2025

The Countdown

The wait is nearly over. Make a note in your diaries because next Wednesday 17th September, Delicious Delights, the new Heart of Huddersfield collection for 2025, will be revealed in all its glory. Over the past few weeks, we’ve been giving tempting hints and sharing the back story — and now we’re one week away from unveiling the fabrics that embody everything this collection stands for: heritage, craftsmanship, and creativity.

Six Fabrics, Many Possibilities

We’ve already shared that the 2025 collection brings you six plain meltons, woven from 100% lambswool. What makes them so special is not just their timeless simplicity, but the refined qualities you will notice the moment you hold them in your hands. Each one features a soft and luxurious handle, paired with a graceful drape that makes them a dream for garment-making. Whether you’re planning a tailored coat, a flowing cape, a gored skirt or an everyday jacket with personality, these fabrics are made to move beautifully with you and to be worn for years to come.

A Celebration of Colour

Perhaps the most exciting twist is the colour palette. The mainstay of many sustainably made Yorkshire tweeds is a grey warp yarn, which gives naturalistic, but often muted grey-leaning tones. Our special collection for 2025 is intentionally different, using a surplus, high quality, white lambswool yarn that forms the base cloth, then giving it joyful vibrancy through overdyeing. Using surplus yarn means that HoH is yet again bringing beautiful fabrics with greater sustainability and lower environmental impact. Bright, bold shades step confidently into the spotlight, designed to enhance your wardrobe and lift your spirits. They are colours that refuse to be ignored, colours that bring optimism into the darker months, colours that redefine what Heart of Huddersfield can be.

Limited Editions, Unlimited Creativity

As with every Heart of Huddersfield release, these fabrics are exclusive to Fabworks, and we do not supply them to other retailers. They will not be repeated, and once they sell out, they are gone for good — making whatever you choose to create with them truly one-of-a-kind. Exclusivity and individuality have always defined Heart of Huddersfield, and it is why so many makers eagerly await its return each year.

Fabworks’ Honesty

We started by purchasing a supply of beautiful, white, pure lambswool surplus yarn, that we calculated would yield 6 new fabrics once woven up. After weaving, the new white lambswool was sent to the finishers for dyeing. Through overdyeing a plain white fabric, we did take a risk. Different yarns take colours in different ways, and after the finishing we found that some of the warp yarns hadn’t quite taken up the dye as expected. Within the weave of these softly finished fabrics there are narrow, but visible, striations at intervals along the length, although in some colours you will not even notice it. The fabric is flawless in quality but flawed in the colour take up. At Fabworks we do not seek to pull the wool over our customers’ eyes, so we are letting you know in advance, and therefore are reducing the price of these glorious cloths to reflect the inconsistency in dyeing that affects the whole collection, even where it has minimal impact. We had intended to offer the Delicious Delights collection at £40.00 per metre, to reflect its pure lambswool content, high quality weaving, and the premium price that white pure wool yarn commands. Having examined the finished lengths and seen the imperfection, we will be selling all the colours in this year’s collection at just £25.00 per metre, not because we think they are only worth that, but because we want you, the customer, to be able to afford the extra metreage that may be required to create your perfect self-bespoke pieces, from our flawless yet flawed fabric, in whichever colours you prefer. Fabworks and its regular customers form a community, and we want to inspire your trust, not fleece you, so we are taking the hit and being upfront and honest.

The Final Countdown

So now we are almost there. On 17th September you’ll see these fabrics, discover their names, and be able to bring them into your own creative world. Until then, peruse your patterns, dream of designs, and get ready. Because this autumn, Heart of Huddersfield is about to shine brighter than ever before.

Pre-Launch Review

We sent samples of Delicious Delights to Elizabeth Binns, a wool specialist and longstanding friend of Fabworks. If you’re interested in an expert opinion, discover her thoughts on this year’s collection; an honest review from someone who really understands wool fabrics.

“The autumn launch of Fabwork’s very own Heart of Huddersfield (HoH) collection is always a kick start to my sewing season after dabbling in cottons and linens through the summer, and this year I have been given a sneak peek at the 2025 collection, which come under the title ‘Delicious Delights‘. Having the chance to handle samples makes such a difference, and I have to say especially with this collection, where photographs alone cannot do the cloth justice.

Mention pure wool melton and my ears always prick up. There is so much going for it as a fabric, from its very low chance of fraying to its stability and strength whilst being easy to sew and a joy to appliqué or embroider. It tends to the heavier end, and of course some meltons are definitely ‘coat and cushion’ types, thick, cosy but a little lacking in curvy drape. Melton is also generally quite a matte finish fabric. I was therefore expecting some nice wool melton, but what arrived on my doormat has taken melton to a whole new level. It even has stability both in width and length and yet also a very slight elasticity in the width and bias if you want to mould it into something sculptural and figure-hugging.

The colour choices are bold, and I have things to say about those, but what leaps out is the sublime lustre and silky sheen combined with a wonderful 100% lambswool softness. If you told me this cloth was actually 30% silk I would not question it. When it catches the light it has the sheen of a racehorse fit for Royal Ascot, and that means the twill weave is elevated to something I cannot quite define, neither barleycorn nor checkerboard but absolutely stunning. Yes, I am waxing lyrical, but I can honestly say this HoH looks the best yet to me. The fabrics look not just top quality but couture quality, and I cannot wait to get my hands on a skirt length, because it is not just the colour that will draw attention. Fabworks have gone down the sustainable route once again, which is far better for the planet, and created a plain base cloth and dyed it. When you do that you cannot guarantee how the cloth takes up the dye, and I did see a repeated pale line in one of the colours. However, being inventive, I would work around that, because I am told that the pricing will reflect the issue and one can buy more cloth to achieve the aim. I would also say I would be hard pressed to see an issue with most of the collection at all.”

Chapter 2: Wednesday 3rd September 2025

Our Creative Process

We should start by saying that The Heart of Huddersfield collections, whilst designed for versatility, are primarily created for your self-bespoke clothing creations, with great attention paid to impact, and how the fabric will behave when sewn.

If you’ve followed our Heart of Huddersfield journey since 2019, you will know that our annual HoH is a collection that tells a story; not only through the fabrics themselves but through the choices, processes, and ideas that shape them. With 2025’s collection, that story began months ago, when we asked ourselves a simple but exciting question: how do we take something rooted in heritage and give it a contemporary feel and a bold voice?

The answer came through colour.

Colour as Inspiration

Colour is of course the most eye-catching thing that we notice in clothing. Classic wool tweeds have often incorporated a muted palette, with nothing too exuberant or boisterous. After all, tweeds are timeless, and not mere slaves to yearly fashion trends.

All of Fabworks’ Yorkshire-made woollen fabrics are created using surplus and waste yarns. This sustainable approach has long been part of our ethos, with its naturally muted palette through incorporation of grey yarn often providing the dominant undertone. However, for this year’s Heart of Huddersfield collection, we have broken free from those limits in a big way.

2025’s fabrics are bright, bold, and full of life. They are deliberately designed to spark joy and energy — in colours that can lift your mood as well as rejuvenate your wardrobe. While we are not revealing the exact shades until launch day, we can say that they’re quite unlike anything we’ve produced in previous HoH collections. The quality and sheen of the cloth for Heart of Huddersfield 2025 reflects prestige and class but our selection of hues adds playfulness, demonstrating expert cloth engineering alongside expression through colour. We have named the new collection ‘Delicious Delights’ to reflect this.

Crafting Simplicity, Elevating Quality

Another defining element was our decision to create a plain fabric, well, six plain fabrics to be precise. On the surface, “plain” might sound modest. In reality, it’s anything but. A plain fabrics is given life by the richness of the weave, the quality of the wool, the drape, the handle. These are things one set up close. It is the colour which draws the eye to see those delicious details.

And here’s where it gets even more delightful. These fabrics are not just plain — they are woven from 100% lambswool, a fibre prized for its natural softness, warmth, and resilience. In the skilled hands of Huddersfield’s master weavers, we have been able to transform this lambswool into something remarkable: a finished cloth that offers a silky sheen, a supple handle and luxurious feel to the touch, with a fluid drape that flatters and moves with the wearer. This is fabric that doesn’t just look beautiful — it behaves beautifully too, making it an absolute joy to sew and wear.

Designed to Be Made With

Every Heart of Huddersfield collection has been about fabrics that inspire making, not just to receive admiring looks. This year is no exception. The six fabrics launching on Wednesday 17th September are designed with versatility in mind. They are plain enough to pair with anything, yet bold enough to stand alone. They can form the foundation of a wardrobe or statement pieces that turns heads. And thanks to their soft handle and graceful drape, they lend themselves perfectly to coats, jackets, capes, skirts and more.

And because they are exclusive to Fabworks, you’ll know that whatever you decide to make your self-bespoke creation will be truly one-of-a-kind.

The Countdown Continues

The wait is nearly over, and our own excitement is building as we share these teasers with you. Soon, all will be revealed: the names, the shades, and the full personality of this year’s Heart of Huddersfield collection. Until then, let the anticipation build. Imagine the possibilities, because when colour meets craftsmanship in the heart of Huddersfield, something truly special happens.

Chapter 1: Wednesday 27th August 2025

A New Chapter Begins

Every autumn, we look forward to bringing you something very close to our hearts, so we named it- Heart of Huddersfield. Since we commissioned a loom of our own for the first time in 2019, Fabworks’has been producing its own unique woollen cloth, and celebrating the textile heritage of our Yorkshire home, and shining a light on Huddersfield’s long-standing reputation for weaving the very best woollen cloth.

These collections have become an autumnal event, eagerly awaited by makers who know that these special fabrics have not been seen elsewhere and are in very limited quantity. Each year, Heart of Huddersfield brings together carefully curated cloth that speaks of place, season, and story. In our more recent collections, we have also focused on being ecologically aware. Whether it has been earthy tones echoing Yorkshire’s hills, or rich shades inspired by its historic mills, each collection has carried a distinct personality — and a special sense of locale and belonging.

Looking Back, Moving Forward

As we prepare to unveil this year’s fabric collection, we can’t help but reflect on what has made Heart of Huddersfield so special. Every collection has been:

  • Designed with thought — each fabric created exclusively to highlight Fabworks’ ethos of quality, keeping it local and doing our bit for sustainability.
  • Rooted in tradition — made in Huddersfield, still the beating heart of Britain’s wool industry.
  • Appreciated by makers worldwide — from coats and jackets to capes, accessories, and interiors.

This is not just cloth. Heart of Huddersfield represents a bridge between past and present: timeless skills applied in new and exciting ways, celebrating both the craft of weaving and the creativity of design.

A Bold New Direction

While tradition is the foundation of Heart of Huddersfield, 2025 brings something unexpected. Where past collections whispered of moorland walks and autumn leaves, this year’s palette speaks with a louder, more confident voice. With Heart of Huddersfield 2025, we have deliberately moved forward from simply echoing tradition — now embracing modern, bright, bold hues that celebrate colour in its purest form. Think brightness. Think boldness. Think colours that cut through the grey of autumn skies and put a smile into the season ahead.

The Story Begins

Over the coming weeks, we will be sharing more about the inspiration behind these six fabrics, and why we have not rested on our laurels with heritage colours. All we can say for now is that this year’s collection carries the same promise as every year before: once these fabrics arrive, they will never be repeated.

So, whether you have been waiting since last autumn or are only just discovering Heart of Huddersfield for the first time, prepare to be inspired. Something bright, bold, and still very proudly Yorkshire is on its way.
Stay tuned. Heart of Huddersfield 2025 is coming soon.
