Specifications:

Weight: Medium / Heavy

Composition: Wool & Mohair

Width: 158cm / 62.2inch

Pattern repeat: 123cm / 48.5inch

Introduction:

Need a wool coating with a difference? Adore colour and texture? Then Ruby Poodle is the fabric for you! A super twill-woven, medium/heavy coating fabric with the quirky addition of 30cm/11.75inch black mohair bouclé bands - very designer!

Colour:

The main part of the 123cm repeat panel is woven with a rich ruby-red on the warp fibres and a contrasting black woven in the diagonal twill weave on the weft, making for quite a dramatic look! Ruby Poodle boasts a stable hard-wearing handle, both width wise and lengthwise, with a reassuringly heavy drape too.

Properties:

The bouclé  bands have been felted into the twill to give a dense and close, curly poodle-like effect! Thin black curls are still visible within the bands and have a fab lustrous sheen, which is visible throughout the fabric.

Garment Suggestions:

Sold in 123cm/48.5inch panels you can be truly inventive with this striking and rich textural fabric. Evoking thoughts of a bygone era, the black felted bands look almost like astrakhan. Large and oversized coats in '80s style, will look superb for both men and women using Ruby Poodle.

Sit the bouclé band along the hemline of the coat for balance and by using two repeat panels you have the flexibility to play with the other black band for sleeve placement and collar or pocket details too. Cocoon coats, simple bohemian wraps and capes will all look equally amazing in this stunning fabric. You could even make a bold statement and use any left over pieces for bag and cap making!

Other Uses:

Take advantage of this cosy and warming fabric's soft texture and striking design and use for interior projects such as throws and cushions.

Please note that this fabric is sold in 123cm panels

Nice wool with a difference

I got this fabric after purchasing the sample, just to make sure the colour is what I wanted. It's in dark red shade, not burgundy. The fabric is slightly loosely woven, suiting / jacket weight. I plan to use the boucle stripe part for the collar. The fabric comes to live after a long soak in the bath, the black boucle stripe however can be itchy so should be lined. Fabworks service is great as ever.

Why choose wool fabric?

Benefits of sewing with Wool! 🐑

We love wonderful wool! Why? Because it looks beautiful, well yes but did you know wool has a series of superpowers that make it the most incredible natural fibre, suitable for more garment suggestions and sewing inspiration than possibly any other?

Wool has a unique naturally crimped 3D structure which attributes to some brilliant properties & makes it a great fabric to wear throughout all the seasons.

Naturally Breathable: This amazing 3D crimped structure promotes air circulation allowing air to pass through the fabric, allowing for circulation and ventilation for your skin to breathe, keeping you cool.

Shower Resistant: Sheep naturally produce a waxy substance called lanolin. As sheep live outdoors, this naturally occurring wax helps to protect sheep from the elements, naturally shedding water & keeping them dry. This same property is retained within the wool fibres when spun into yarn.

Moisture Absorbing: The moisture-retentive superpowers of wool! It’s hydrophilic core gives wool the ability to wick away moisture keeping you dry and comfortable – this possibly one of our favourite properties because you can stay fresh when wearing wool, from autumn right through to spring!
