Introduction:

Rainstorm Blue - Virgin Wool Worsted is a soft, smooth, silky fine wool worsted suiting. Woven in a superfine staggered twill weave with 'pin dot' detail throughout, which emulates fine diagonal raindrops. The combination of dusty denim blue and white yarns creates the smartest of mid-blue tones.

Colour:

Rainstorm Blue this mid dusty denim blue is perfect for so many things, but consider the outstanding drape and subtle sheen of this excellent fabric, plus the added pin dot detail means this is no ordinary blue suiting!

Properties:

This stunning fabric boasts a soft drape quality which displays the delicious subtle sheen and has a stable width and lengthwise handle. If you thought fine wool suitings were only for suits, then think again and look at our suggestions below for what you can create with them.

Rainstorm Blue showcases these features and create fit & flare dresses, full pleated trousers or culottes, dramatic evening coats with pleats and drape details, or simply use them for everyday work wear and be sure you're wearing a first-rate Italian wool fabric upon your body. Affordable luxury and quality that you can wear every day.

Garment  Suggestions:

For something a little sharper; create classic wide-legged trousers The Pattern Stash - Cordelia Trousers and matching waistcoats Jemima Waistcoat for a confident feminine style. Dress this look down with traditional Fair Isle jumpers and a pair of brogues. For full-on feminine glamour go the whole hog and create a matching blazer with a velvet collar and pocket flaps, classic cuts never date.

If suit-making isn't your forte, fear not!  Suiting fabric is easily dressed down. Put this superb fabric to use for less formal, but equally smart outfits, such as shirts, tunics, pinafore dresses and skirts too. The Merchant & Mills 'Shirt Dress' and 'Trapeze Dress' will look stunning in this fabric. There's also a simple drawstring-waist trouser pattern too (The 101 Trouser), which will work perfectly with this designer worsted.

There are many other patterns available suitable to use with this fabric, think clean simple lines and unfussy cuts! We love the uncluttered lines of The Makers Atelier and The Assembly Line patterns.

Why choose wool fabric?

Benefits of sewing with Wool! 🐑

We love wonderful wool! Why? Because it looks beautiful, well yes but did you know wool has a series of superpowers that make it the most incredible natural fibre, suitable for more garment suggestions and sewing inspiration than possibly any other?

Wool has a unique naturally crimped 3D structure which attributes to some brilliant properties & makes it a great fabric to wear throughout all the seasons.

Naturally Breathable: This amazing 3D crimped structure promotes air circulation allowing air to pass through the fabric, allowing for circulation and ventilation for your skin to breathe, keeping you cool.

Shower Resistant: Sheep naturally produce a waxy substance called lanolin. As sheep live outdoors, this naturally occurring wax helps to protect sheep from the elements, naturally shedding water & keeping them dry. This same property is retained within the wool fibres when spun into yarn.

Moisture Absorbing: The moisture-retentive superpowers of wool! It’s hydrophilic core gives wool the ability to wick away moisture keeping you dry and comfortable – this possibly one of our favourite properties because you can stay fresh when wearing wool, from autumn right through to spring!
